Mission Statement

The mission of the Student Veterans Resource Center is to provide academic support to the veteran community. We assist the veteran community with their pursuit of academic and career goals while offering services tailored to the unique experiences and needs of student veterans, including, but not limited to, assisting with activating and utilizing GI Bill benefits.


Assist with basic office functions including assistant with the front desk, answering phones, greeting guests, recording messages for staff, and directing incoming calls and walk-ins. Assist walk-in veteran and dependent students with related Admissions processes. Assist with VA enrollment certification processing, scanning, and document management. Draft written communications, listserv announcements, flyers, etc. Make calls to current and incoming students. Assist with workshop planning and implementation. Organize all front desk operations. Maintain all records and communications with strict confidentiality. Support and assist Program Manager and Coordinator with orientation and outreach activities. Maintain orderliness of SVRC Lounge and front desk area. Other VA-related duties as assigned. This position may work up to 25 hours per week.This is a great opportunity to network and participate in community events!

Required Qualifications*

Student must be enrolled at UM-Flint at least -time under one of the VA educational benefits. Knowledge of UM-Flint campus and VA programs. Availability to schedule work hours during Student Veterans Resource Center office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday and assist with special events after 5:00 p.m. as needed.

Desired Qualifications*

Knowledge of University of Michigan-Flint services and programs. Strong organizational skills. Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Excellent written and verbal skills.

Pay is based on the higher of current federal or state minimum wage and is paid through the VA work-study allowance program.
