SUMMARY The Low voltage electrician performs highly skilled maintenance, installation, repairs and troubleshooting work with low voltage electrical systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned Installation and maintenance of all low voltage cables (Cat 5/6, speaker wire/intercom, coax, etc.) Nurse call systems. TV systems. Intercom/IP systems. Demonstrates proper cable management and containment. Understands life safety codes as they pertain to wall penetrations and the prevention of fire/smoke spread. Knowledge of electrical NEC Codes. Demonstrates proper tool knowledge handling and maintenance. Maintains, repairs and expands the existing clock systems. Understands and follows infection control guidelines for opening ceilings. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring and equipment using testing devices such as ohm meters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring and equipment based on job specifications and local codes. Direct and train workers to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring and equipment. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment. Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring and equipment. Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications. Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as moving and lifting heavy objects. Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services. Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles.
