Job Title: Phlebotomist I MontgomeryJob DescriptionSummary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.Responsibilities+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and perform decontamination.+ Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.+ Explain clearly and courteously the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.+ Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.+ Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperatures.+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.+ Attend annual department training sessions.+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential Skills+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.+ Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.+ High School Diploma or GED.+ 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Phlebotomy certification+ Experience in pediatric and geriatric phlebotomy+ Strong customer service skills+ Good hygiene and clean-cut appearance+ Experience with laboratory equipment such as centrifuges+ Ability to handle 60-90 blood draws daily, with 15-20 per person.Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC). The location accommodates a team of two full-time and two part-time employees. The work environment includes chairs in the processing area, minimizing the need for prolonged standing. The role involves working Monday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Initial training spans 3-4 days and focuses mainly on administrative tasks.
