Summary
William Blair is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its dynamic and fast paced legal team. Reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel, the Senior Counsel is responsible for supporting the firm’s general corporate needs and providing comprehensive and strategic legal support across the firm, including contract review, negotiation and commercial contract management. The Senior Counsel will act as a key advisor, providing expert counsel and working directly with various stakeholders to help mitigate risks and support the firm’s strategic goals. The successful candidate is a highly organized self-starter that excels in a team-oriented environment, enjoys collaborating with colleagues and working closely with business stakeholders.
Essential Responsibilities
Review, negotiate and manage contracts and agreements for all parts of the William Blair organization and business, ensuring alignment with the firm’s strategic objectives and standards
Identify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies
Develop internal processes and procedures with the goal of driving efficiency
Review, negotiate and manage execution of audit letters
Maintain oversight of external counsel as needed
Assist on commercial litigation, including subpoena collection and response
Maintain and update litigation docket
Provide legal support for corporate transactional work or governance matters as needed
Perform general litigation responsibilities
Other related duties and special projects as required
Experience
5-8 years’ experience as a practicing attorney, with some experience in a law firm required.
Experience directly drafting and negotiating various types of contracts and agreements.
Education
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations. Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work Environment
Travel Required: Occasional 0-5%
The role is based in Chicago.
Work is regularly performed in a hybrid environment – with the expectation of being in the Chicago office at least 3 days a week, or more as needed, and from home, and routinely uses standard office equipment.
It may require the maintenance of a home office.
