Explore Company is retained to recruit the new Executive Director of the Catena Foundation. About the Catena Foundation The Catena Foundation (Foundation) is a private family foundation dedicated to making a lasting impact on sustainability and human well-being. The Foundation’s vision builds on the deeply rooted values of continuing to heal the land and heal the people, together. The value of the Foundation’s leadership is not simply based on its grantmaking. The Foundation supports leaders and seeks to empower them with the tools and resources to create durable change. The Foundation is committed to leaders and the collective efforts of those who inspire and implement solutions to complex social, environmental, and economic issues. The values of the Foundation staff reflect their commitment to honor the compact between the Foundation and those they serve. The Catena Foundation is currently based in Carbondale, Colorado. Executive Director The Executive Director reports to the Foundation’s founder. The Executive Director will serve in a strategic role to help foster and sustain the vision of its founder. In addition to providing internal leadership and stewardship, the Executive Director will help facilitate the impact of the Foundation through interaction with public, private, and other civic leaders. The Executive Director should be an individual who inspires trust and is committed to building a Foundation based on “agency.” The Executive Director serves as a strategist, facilitator, and organizational steward. As such, the Executive Director must have the presence, grace, and humility to work effectively and with a diverse range of people. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan that aligns with the Foundation's mission and vision. Provide organizational leadership, including the implementation of program priorities, strong execution, and fostering a culture of exploration and accountability. Resource Management:

Oversee the management of financial resources and budgets. Community Engagement and Partnerships:

Build strong relationships with impacted communities, government agencies, and environmental organizations to foster collaboration and support. Represent the Foundation at conferences, events, and public forums. Explore opportunities for creative partnerships which promote the sustainable impact of the Foundation’s work. Governance and Compliance:

Ensure that the Foundation adheres to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with the founder to provide guidance and oversight. Work in partnership with the founder while leading the Foundation staff to support the creative exploration of ideas and the implementation of the Foundation’s program priorities. Professional Qualifications and Personal Attributes Authentic alignment to the core values of the Foundation. Ability to build and inspire a high-performing professional team with a goal to execute on strategic objectives with exceptional results and a sense of urgency. Experience building private/public partnerships and other nontraditional coalitions to create lasting and meaningful outcomes in the policy, private, and philanthropic sectors. Ability to listen, to stay grounded, trustworthy, an ability to give credit and recognition to others and a personal style of acting with humility and grace – in sum a superb professional and personal presence. Compensation Compensation for the Executive Director includes a base salary, a comprehensive package of employee/family health benefits, and matching retirement contribution.
