This role serves as a key member of the Idaho Youth Ranch Strategic Leadership Team and reports to the CEO. In collaboration with the CEO and the two other Strategic Leadership Team members, the Chief Implementation Officer and the Chief Sustainability Officer, this leader jointly provides Organizational and Strategic Leadership, Organizational Culture and Talent Management, Partnership Development, Program Development and Management, Financial Management, and Community Engagement for the Idaho Youth Ranch. The Chief Advancement Officer focuses on spearheading the advancement of IYR’s mission by developing and executing comprehensive strategies to maximize the Idaho Youth Ranch’s impact, reach, and sustainability. The CAO leads all aspects of Idaho Youth Ranch’s philanthropic initiatives and external relations programs. This leader provides oversight and direction to Idaho Youth Ranch’s Development, Marketing, Communications, Advocacy, and Public Relations team members. Job Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership:

Provide leadership across the entire organization with a strategic focus on the Advancement area, fostering a welcoming culture of belonging, collaboration, ownership with accountability, and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop all leaders, with a strategic focus on the Advancement team members and leaders, empowering them to excel in their roles and contribute to our mission. Strategic Leadership:

In partnership with the CEO and in collaboration with the Strategic Leadership team, lead the development and execution of the Idaho Youth Ranch's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with our mission, vision, and values. Continuously assess trends, emerging needs, and opportunities to inform strategic decision-making. Oversee strategic market research, needs assessments, feasibility studies, and related analyses to drive strategic decisions. Collaborate with key leaders to review and prioritize opportunities and incorporate these into short- and long-term strategies. Operational Oversight:

Provide expertise and oversight for the Advancement related areas including: Community / Stakeholder Relations Communications / Public Relations Marketing Development (Fundraising) Advocacy Leadership Development and Succession Planning New Construction and Property Portfolio Strategy Volunteer Recruitment Ensure business processes, KPIs, and standard operating procedures are created, refined, and managed, with clearly defined accountabilities documented in the appropriate job descriptions. Lead a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Organizational Culture and Talent Management:

Foster a welcoming and inclusive organizational culture of belonging that attracts, develops, and retains top talent to achieve organizational objectives. Partnership Development:

Cultivate and nurture long-term strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including volunteers, government agencies, community organizations, donors, and other not-for-profits. Effectively collaborate internally and externally to leverage resources, expand Idaho Youth Ranch’s reach, and maximize impact. Program Development and Advancement:

Lead the identification and exploration of innovative programs and services that fulfill IYR’s mission. In collaboration with external partners and Idaho Youth Ranch leaders, identify gaps in service delivery and develop strategies to address them effectively. Ensure mission delivery, growth, and sustainability through fiscal planning and management. Identify long-term opportunities for revenue generation and cost optimization. Community Engagement:

In partnership with the CEO, serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for the organization, building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, including volunteers, donors, community leaders, government agencies, and other non-profit organizations. Lead / oversee strategic philanthropic, advocacy, and community relations initiatives for Idaho Youth Ranch. Key Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or related field) or CFRE Certification strongly preferred. 10–15 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic leadership, organizational advancement, fundraising, or related roles. Proven track record in developing and implementing successful strategic initiatives. Demonstrated experience in senior leadership roles, preferably within nonprofit, educational, philanthropic, or mission-driven organizations. Demonstrated leadership & supervisory experience, including the ability to inspire, mentor, build, and develop high-performing teams. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including board members, staff, partners, and donors. Strong decision-making skills, with a focus on fostering collaboration and teamwork. Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and resource allocation in a nonprofit or business environment. Ability to analyze financial reports and data to inform strategic decisions. Strong technical ability with experience using analytics, metrics, and benchmarks to measure success and impact. Executive experience in larger non-profits and/or experience leading larger capital campaigns preferred.
