POSITION SUMMARY
The medical science liaison (MSL) / Senior MSL is a field-based Medical Affairs professional who is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with thought leaders and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) as well as engaging in scientific exchange in their assigned territory. This individual will also serve as a scientific resource and expert in the support of medical affairs and clinical development activities such as HCP scientific exchange, medical congress engagement, advisory boards, & research initiatives including clinical trial recruitment.
This position will require the individual to be located in the New England Region, with reasonable access to a major airport.
JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifies and develops professional relationships with thought leaders and other healthcare professionals, study investigators, and professional organizations in gastroenterology and hepatology within their assigned geography.
Supports research initiatives across clinical development and provides support to study site investigators.
Serves as a liaison between HCPs interested in investigator-initiated research with Mirum to facilitate review and consideration of research proposals.
Engages in scientific exchange in response to thought leader requests.
Provides education relative to adult and pediatric liver disease and, when appropriate, Mirum’s approved and investigational products throughout the lifecycle.
Communicates thought leader insights and observations to medical affairs and clinical development on a timely basis.
Effectively articulates relevant scientific and clinical information relative to the therapeutic area to HCPs and researchers.
Utilizes scientific resources to deliver impactful presentations to varying audiences and in a variety of different settings including (but not limited to) advisory boards, patient advocacy groups, and investigators.
Provides accurate and unbiased assessment of community needs to senior management.
Stays abreast of emerging scientific literature and clinical trial data in both pediatric and adult gastroenterology and hepatology.
Supports the congress and conference strategy, providing scientific support and communication of scientific insights.
Fully compliant with all company SOPs, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws including PhRMA guidelines for field-based employees.
Completes other responsibilities in a timely manner, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Advanced science or clinical degree (e.g. MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA).
5+ years MSL experience preferred.
Prior experience as a MSL in gastroenterology, hepatology and/or rare disease highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Established relationships with gastroenterology and/or hepatology thought leaders is highly desired.
Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude, possessing the initiative required to achieve goals both independently and within a team structure.
Demonstrated expertise in ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific information.
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
Actively listens to others and is adept at confidently stating expert opinion while respecting the position of others.
Skillfully plans, prioritizes, and executes multiple responsibilities and projects.
Able to travel frequently, up to 60% overnight travel and has a valid drivers’ license.
Advanced computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn new applications.
Strong business acumen.
Launch experience preferred.
