COMMUNICATION ENGINEER/SCIENTIST (TS/SCI REQUIRED)

This position entails facilitating test scenarios between mobile devices and the 5G network and will involve defining meaningful test scenarios; configuring the mobile devices, RAN, and core network to execute those scenarios; capturing data at multiple points in the network during tests; and analyzing test captures to develop deep insight into communications between mobile devices and the network as well as interfaces between key network elements such as the gNodeB and the Next Generation Core.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with cellular communications protocols as well as packet networks in general.

Ability to learn 5G vendors' interfaces for configuring network elements as well as creating test capture points.

Experience with packet capture and analysis tools such as WireShark.

Experience with creating custom software for manipulating and/or extracting packet data in C++/Python/etc.

Experience/familiarity with mobile operating systems such as Android OS.

DESIRED SKILLS:

Experience/familiarity with 4G (LTE) and/or 5G protocols such as the RRC, PDCP, authorization and authentication protocols, GTP-U, and GTP-C.

Experience/familiarity with 4G and/or 5G network element interfaces (reference points) such as S1, S5, X1, X2, Xn, N1, N2, N3, etc.

Familiarity with the 4G/5G air interface and the basics of OFDMA, RF propagation, and spectrum allocation.

EDUCATION:

BS in network engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field or commensurate experience.

TS/SCI clearance required.
