Position the Y as a Vital Partner for Community Change:

Serve as an ambassador for the mission, purpose, and vision for the YMCA within the community. Possess the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y. Ensure your Y is seen as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other.

Steward Fundraising Efforts:

Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that will establish the YMCA as a leading nonprofit organization within the community through the engagement of members, volunteers, staff, and donors. Identify the need for successful capital fundraising, while taking the organization to a new level of effectiveness and impact in annual giving and endowment.

Fiscal Management:

Use high-level financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability, while consistently leading the organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff leaders to lead their departments to successful financial operation. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

Improve Operating Performance:

Engage the board and appropriate staff to develop an annual tactical plan for identifying and achieving key goals and objectives towards operating with safe, relevant, and sustainable practices. Quickly address issues that may arise, forecast future needs, and manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.

Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan:

Work effectively with volunteers, community leaders, and key staff, to create and develop a strategic plan that addresses the needs of the communities served by the Y and include defined organizational strategies, a clear implementation plan with deliverables, and measurable goals.

Build and Lead Staff:

Ensure a talent development system is in place and executed in affirming, culturally competent and effective staff. Hire, motivate, nurture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Work towards recruiting, retaining, developing, and promoting staff that represent the diversity of the communities you serve. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie, inclusion, and sense of mission and purpose. Create a learning organization to help staff achieve their highest potential.

About the YMCA

The Champaign Family YMCA meets the youth development, fitness, childcare, and recreational needs and interests of over 5,000 people who live and work in Champaign County via programs and services at the well-maintained facility in Urbana, large day care operation and more than twelve off-site program centers in the County, and an 80-acre day camp property.

Qualifications

Criteria for candidates:

Accredited 4-year college degree and or equivalent work experience.

Fiscally sound business management approach with a proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management more than $1M or more annually.

Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.

Essential Functions

Current Key Strategic Initiatives:

Strategic Priority 1: Improve and foster quality of life in Champaign County

Expand childcare to improve quality of life for families.

Expand programming to improve quality of life for children and adults.

Increase partnerships to reach all areas of the county.

Exceed State expectations for childcare to create a quality experience for children and families.

Review and revise all facility space usage to maximize existing spaces to the best of our ability.

Conduct program assessments to ensure all programs and services meet community needs.

Strategic Priority 2: Enhance our brand & perception of the Y as an organization that helps the community

Increase awareness and knowledge of the Y so community members understand what we do.

Expand communications and marketing via all community events so the Y is included in conversations.

Leverage our brand with current members to move them from a transactional to transformational relationship.

Engage and expand our community partner relationships so we can embed the Y into the fabric of community at every opportunity.

Create initiatives to promote the mission of the Y with prospective members so they understand what we do.

Develop a YMCA Ambassadors Club so we have additional support in spreading our mission into the community.

Educate the general community on the Y’s mission so everyone has a clear understanding of the work of the Y.

Create youth focused marketing and programs so we will attract and impact youth demographic.

Create a strong volunteer structure for fundraising efforts so we can increase our impact.

The Champaign Family Y received $1 million in 2023 from the Champaign County Commission. Because of this gift the Y is adding three new classrooms and other renovations to our childcare program, enabling us to serve an additional 35-40 children. The Y is the largest childcare provider in Champaign County, caring for more than 600 children each year.

Residency Expectation:

Living in the YMCA’s service area is preferred. It is expected that the CEO will be fully engaged in the community.

Salary Range:

$95,000 to $110,000 annually.

YMCA Retirement Fund: the Y contributes 12% of gross pay once eligibility is met

403B Savings Account available through the YMCA Retirement Fund

Vacation time is based on YMCA service time; Sick time is available after 6 months

Medical health plan (80% paid by Y, 20% by employee)
