Job DescriptionThe Harbor Department Information Technology Division is seeking a Database Administrator/Architect to manage and support the Harbor Department's databases.
Certification:• Microsoft Certified Database Administrator is preferred;• Oracle Certified Database Administrator is preferred;
Duties include but are not limited to:• Install and maintain enterprise data servers including patching, upgrading, migrating, creating jobs, and setting security;• Design, develop, and implement databases and related interfaces;• Design, create, deploy, and maintain enterprise data warehouses;• Advise, plan, and manage or lead the database and application development at the enterprise level for enhancement, and data integration while setting standards and policies;• Create, manage, and maintain MS Power BI servers at the enterprise levels while ensuring usability, availability, and performance of the integrated data;• Develop standards and procedures for the testing of new databases by providing technical support such as developing utilities, maintaining systems configurations, and creating multiple test data environments, in order to prevent unauthorized access and damage to the operational databases;• Develop and implement methods and procedures for the loading of the physical database by recognizing existing data formats, knowing where to capture the data, and/or by writing programs to restructure the data;• Develop and implement methods and procedures for the reorganizing of physical databases by monitoring the frequency of the use of the database, size of the database, and activity related to the database; and decide about possible expansion of the data server or the database.• Develop and implements procedure for the backup and recovery of databases on frequency of database use and requirements of the system;• Tune and optimizes SQL statements;• Perform and support ETL processing;• Ensure database security and compliance with legal mandates and data privacy acts;• Train and assist developers and users in database use including query tools and utilities;• Assist functional and technical staff such as functional analysts, and programmers in order to comply with data standards, maximize security, availability, and minimize error;• Develop and maintain database/system documentations;• Provide database support and coordination to various IT system upgrade projects and teams;• Perform other system and database related tasks.
Requirements• Minimum five years of experience with database administration of medium to large databases (200GB-1TB);• Proficient in MS SQL Server RDBMS (2012, 2014, 2016, 2019), MS Access, Oracle RDBMS (12c), Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, SQL Loader, T-SQL, SSIS package, and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Unix, Python;• Experience in supporting database systems on Linux OS and Windows platform;• Knowledge of IT security best practices;• Experience working with Financial, Payroll or Cloud applications is preferred;• Experience in system integration and ETL processing is preferred;• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint etc.);• Analytical skills are required to solve problems;• Work effectively with a cross-functional team, multi-tasking, and effective time management;• Proficient in authoring, editing, presenting documents; and providing trainings to end-users;• Ability to translate complex ideas into simple language for non-technical audience;• Strong interpersonal, task management, and analytical skills;• Communicate with business and technical leads clearly, persuasively,and effectively, both orally and in writing;• Good time management and organizational skills.
Hours and Location• Primary location is 425 S. Palos Verdes Blvd, San Pedro, CA 90731, with other locations in San Pedro and Wilmington.• Monday thru Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (40 hours per week, some flexibility)• Work On-Site, in accordance with City of Los Angeles policies.
