The Voice Engineer will support voice related systems, both VoIP and Analog, for the Purdue system.This position is responsible for items such as designing, installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting voice communication systems. Standard operations include performing necessary maintenance and moves, adds, changes, and minor repairs of telephony devices. Design and implement systems to scale and provide fault tolerance. Make recommendations for new products, methods, and procedures is also a vital role. The Voice Engineer will support other telecommunications infrastructure such as call management systems, video conferencing, voice mail, 911, and call centers. This position will also develop reports to allow management to accurately review and forecast call volumes, ticket counts, and the overall health of the voice telephony network. The Voice Engineer will work with vendors, telecom providers, and other entities to ensure that Purdue faculty, staff, and students have first class telephony services.We are currently getting ready to design and implement the next generation of calling at Purdue Ft Wayne, and follow that at each of the Purdue campuses statewide. This position would be on the forefront of making this happen.Purdue Information Technology supports networking and telecommunications system-wide.

This includes Purdue West Lafayette and Indianapolis, Purdue Northwest (Hammond/Westville), and Purdue Ft. Wayne. This position is located in Ft. Wayne but may support systems at any of the campus locations. Travel between campuses, while not often, may be required.This position works a standard 40-hour week with hours between 8am and 5pm. Network outages, regular upgrades, and special projects will require work outside these hours (at night, weekends, and holidays). Network voice operations and engineering operates a rotating on-call schedule for unplanned events.This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level commensurate with the education and experience of the chosen candidate.About Us:

Education and Experience Needed:As the Associate Voice Engineer (P1) you will need the following:Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, networking, engineering, IT or related fieldOne (1) year of experience in telecommunications, networking, engineering, or related fieldEquivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptedMust be a US Citizen with a valid driver’s licenseAs the Voice Engineer (P2) you will need the above and following:Two (2) – three (3) years of experience in network engineering, architecture design, supporting and deploying solutions for infrastructures including LAN, WAN, Voice and Wireless networksPreferred:Experience with switching, routing, DHCP, DNS, virtualization, and firewallsExperience in troubleshooting and repair of analog phone systemsDemonstratable expertise/certification in:Cisco Networking/Voice systems in on-prem and cloud-based VoIP environmentsExperience in Genesys contact center solutionsPractical experience of project management including planning, collaboration, and documentationSkills Needed:For both positions you will need the following:Practical knowledge of telecommunications network standards and best practicesWorking knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure for both VoIP and traditional analog architecturesDesire to learn, train, and grow to advance to a Voice Network Administrator or EngineerExcellent Verbal and written communication skillsAbility to:collaborate with many levels of faculty, staff, and students across multiple locationscoordinate with multiple vendorswork outside regular office hours (night, weekends, and holidays)participate in an on-call schedule for unplanned eventsAdditional Information:Purdue University will not sponsor employment authorization for this positionA background check will be required for employment in this positionFLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contribution Waiting PeriodBenefit Statement: Purdue University offers a substantial Benefit Package including medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as a generous paid time off package for sick and vacation daysPurdue is a community built on collaboration, with global perspectives, Boilermaker pride and endless opportunity to live, learn and grow.
