Overview Pathology Manager is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and evaluating services provided by the Histology and Cytology technical departments. Provides leadership and mentorship/support to the staff needs of the department, including management of day-to-day disciplinary requirements of staff, to include documentation for personnel files. As a clinical expert ensures the provision of competent services by validating staff competency in accordance with standards of excellence, age specific and cultural sensitivity established by the RRMC goals and strategic plans. In conjunction with the Medical Director and the Administrative Director, managers assure compliance with regulatory agencies and undertake special projects as identified.
What you will do
Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments , supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes. For compliance manager, ensure that billing operations are sound, and the COM and CRM files are current and maintained properly. For all managers, review and proactively maintain accurate department statistics. Notify appropriate resources when statistics do not appear accurate. Participates/oversees the planning and monitoring of the budget for defined areas to include appropriate resource allocation determination. Completes variance review, analysis and action plans based on approved departmental budget. Demonstrates prioritization of workload and accurately completes daily duties, weekly and monthly reports as well as special project assignments within appropriate timeliness. Maintains knowledge, affiliation/networks with professional/civic/service organizations that support professional development/relationships that align with the Mission, Vision, and Values of RHS. Completes required continuing education credits for the certification held (Cytology or Histology) as well as a minimum of 5 annual continuing education credits in the alternate specialty (Cytology or Histology). Actively facilitates, organizes and/or participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and educational programs. Ensures a training/continuing education program for staff members that meets/exceeds both industry standards and employee needs. Maintains annual competencies. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of the services provided by department and helps to ensure timely delivery of services to staff, patients, and visitors. Effectively and appropriately responds to inquiries related to test results and general lab information, referring technical questions when necessary. Demonstrates understanding of both internal and external diverse patient care populations served within the community. Also collaborates with the physicians to meet the needs of both patient groups. Demonstrates and maintains professional relationship with medical staff. Uses professional title in the workplace. Incorporates SBAR communication. Maintains a safe environment by complying with RHS policies/procedures/regulatory requirements that support the National Patient Safety Goals and Quality Initiatives. Recognizes and reports variances and provides resolutions. Uses appropriate protective equipment, body mechanics and follows safety guidelines and procedures; identifies and acts to resolve variances or suspected non-compliance to management. Responsible for ensuring department is maintaining accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), DNV and other accrediting agency standards (as required) within the department. Duties include but are not limited to validation testing, performance of proficiency samples, preventative maintenance, QC documentation, Temperature Checks, method comparisons, etc. Qualifications
Education
Bachelors Degree, Medical Laboratory Science or related field (Required) Experience
5-6 years Cytology experience (Required) 2 years Supervisory experience (Preferred) Licenses and Certifications
Cytotechnologist (CT) - The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Upon Hire(Required)
