Job Description:

Position Overview:

As a valued contributor to our team, you will advise the business on a variety of complex legal matters and projects relating to data, technology, commercial arrangements, and in other areas. We are seeking an attorney with significant experience in these topical areas as well as a broad corporate legal background to support the business as needs expand and evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

Advise the business on data use and protection, use of new technologies and AI, intellectual property protection and other similar issues; stay current on emerging legal issues in these areas.

Negotiate third-party agreements such as vendor agreements and participate in cybersecurity response; assist with the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures in these and other areas of the business.

Educate and train the business on new legal processes and legal issues.

Interact with business leaders, internal clients, and external parties in the support of these areas.

Be proactive and creative in working on a wide range of matters, and a team player who is willing to work outside of your primary areas of expertise as needed.

Collaborate with other control functions such as Compliance and Operational Risk to provide coordinated advice to the business.

Qualifications/Competencies/Accreditation:

The incumbent must be qualified to practice law in NY State with between 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or an institutional focused financial services firm.

The candidate will have strong commercial skills and experience with data-focused issues relevant to financial services—e.g., data use permissions and restrictions, IP protection of copyright and trade secrets, cyber security incident response, use of AI and web scraping, as well as significant contract negotiation experience.

The candidate must have outstanding communication skills, be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and be flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities.

Work Location:

The position is based in New York City, with a hybrid in office/remote work model.

Education & Experience:

To fulfill the responsibilities of the position, the incumbent must be qualified to practice law in NY State with a minimum of 3+ years combined experience in a law firm and/or an investment bank legal department.

The candidate should be willing and ready to develop legal skills and expand knowledge into new substantive areas of law as may arise.

The candidate will be attentive to detail, have strong organizational, writing, research and communication skills, be able to cross-train and work both independently and collaboratively, and be flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities.

Depth & Scope:

Advisory support on bank regulations (Volcker, Bank Holding Company Act, Regulation W, QFC), as well as CFTC and SEC matters, in connection with existing products and new initiatives in commodities, derivatives and other products, primarily fixed income.

Advising on swap dealer, security-based swap dealer and broker dealer requirements.

Research and provide advice relating to new regulations and regulatory compliance.
