The Special Projects team at Apple is developing novel user-facing conversational features that leverage the multimodal capabilities of state-of-the-art foundation models. We are looking for a highly skilled Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development and evaluation of such features in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.

**Description**

In this role, you will: - Design and implement machine learning algorithms to aid in building user-facing interactive conversational features - Leverage multi-modal foundation models for rapid prototyping and iteration - Develop evaluation strategies to translate product requirements to objective metrics - Shepherd data collection and evaluation efforts to ensure rapid and measurable progress - Collaborate with key stakeholders in hardware engineering, software engineering and design to develop prototypes and evolve them into production systems (for example, Siri and Apple Intelligence features in Apple’s operating systems).

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Master’s degree in Computer Science or other STEM majors

+ Experience with the use and evaluation of foundation models

+ Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (Pytorch or Tensorflow)

+ 2+ year of Hands-on industry experience building and evaluating Machine Learning or Natural Language Processing systems

+ PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related technical field

+ 4+ years of hands-on industry experience with Machine Learning systems

+ Proficiency in training and evaluation of foundation models and frameworks

+ A track record of publications or technical presentations in Machine Learning journals or conferences

+ Excellent at communication and cross functional collaboration

+ At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
