Summary:
Meta seeks a talented, highly-motivated and flexible transactional lawyer to serve as counsel supporting its original content, video production, content licensing and other media initiatives. You will work with entertainment partnerships and content teams to structure, draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts in connection with entertainment content for Meta’s technologies. You will also advise clients on the various legal risks, business strategies and other issues related to commercial transactions and business operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable with and responsive to rapid developments and changes in direction as well as working with technologies, products and in practice areas without much precedence. Experience demonstrating legal and business judgment, technical acumen, communication skills and strategic thinking, along with experience working independently and cross-functionally. This is a full-time position.
Required Skills:
Lead Counsel, Commercial Responsibilities:
Contract reviewing, drafting, negotiation and advisory responsibilities for Meta’s entertainment partnerships, business development, product, and content teams.
Provide strategic business and legal advice to develop a comprehensive, long-term approach to our relationships with key partners.
Manage and resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships.
Prioritize and manage simultaneous legal matters under tight timelines.
Template and playbook development, review, maintenance, and administration.
Work extended hours when necessary to complete projects in a timely fashion.
Assist with the management of clearance deliverables and marketing assets.
Some travel, domestic and international, may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent).
Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location).
3+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience.
Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills.
Effective communication skills.
Experience structuring, drafting and negotiating agreements for the development, production and distribution of audiovisual programming, including production services agreements, content license agreements, distribution agreements, and above-the-line talent agreements.
Experience advising on clearance matters, evaluating intellectual property rights/chain of title issues and/or legal production work related to audiovisual content.
Knowledge of the current media landscape, including experience with media-focused technology and entertainment business models.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working independently and reacting quickly to make decisions that have both legal and business impact, and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Experience working effectively and collaboratively cross-functionally, thinking creatively and being solution-oriented.
Experience working with guilds/unions (e.g., SAG-AFTRA, DGA, WGA, IATSE).
Experience working with music labels, publishers, and artists.
Experience providing counsel to internet companies with video products and services offered to consumers.
Experience negotiating complex technology transactions.
Public Compensation:
$167,000/year to $233,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits.
