Job Description:
We are currently seeking a
Data Engineer SME
to lead data engineering initiatives for high-priority projects. This position requires extensive expertise in data architecture and system engineering, supporting sophisticated mission systems within dynamic environments. This is a hands-on, on-site role located at Ft. Belvoir, VA.The Data Engineer SME will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and managing advanced data pipelines and architecture to support high-level government objectives. Working directly on classified projects, this individual will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and securing data flows, employing expertise in cloud-based solutions and data engineering tools.Job Duties
Include (but not limited to):Design, develop, and implement data pipelines and ETL processes using AWS and Azure native tools (e.g., Glue, SNS) to support secure and efficient data processing.
Apply proficiency in data flow and orchestration tools, including NiFi and Airflow, to ensure optimal pipeline performance.Develop scalable microservices for data handling and transformation, suitable for high-volume data ingestion and processing.Curate, cleanse, and secure data to support accurate and safe data transfers across multiple classification levels.Develop solutions to support both batch and streaming data processing.Integrate data pipelines with data lakes and warehouses, enhancing data accessibility and efficiency.Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical data requirements.Ensure adherence to data handling best practices and compliance with security requirements when working with classified datasets.Employ data visualization techniques to make data more accessible and actionable for mission teams.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in data engineering, including expertise with AWS and Azure data pipeline/ETL tools.Advanced proficiency with AWS and Azure native tools, including Glue, SNS, and data orchestration platforms like Nifi and Airflow.In-depth knowledge of microservices architecture and proficiency in data curation, cleansing, and security.Hands-on experience with classified data management within the past 1-5 years, with comprehensive understanding of multi-level classification handling.Strong knowledge of both batch and streaming data processing approaches.Familiarity with data visualization techniques and integration of data pipelines with data lakes and data warehouses.Due to US Government Contract Requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for this role.Education & Certifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
