Trial Attorney II - Workers' Compensation

This role is eligible to participate in Zenith’s hybrid work schedule which provides the flexibility to work from home on select days of the week according to the in-office schedule established by regional executive leadership. Selected candidate must be able to report into the Orange, California office on a weekly basis.
Job Summary
Under limited direction of managing attorney, performs duties of legal counsel in the defense and representation of the Company in a variety of courts of law, and other related appearances. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Handles complex cases under the state administrative process (trial level).
Defends workers' compensation cases.
Takes depositions, analyzes testimony, prepares and files related reports.
Represents the Company in appearances at hearings and conferences; prepares and files related reports.
Researches and prepares complex pleadings for cases under the state administrative process (trial level).
Provides advice, training, and recommendations on case handling strategies and tactics to representatives of the Claims department.
Performs legal research at all levels, from advising clients through the appellate procedures.
May assist in training Trial Attorney I.
Applies principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Responds positively to direction and critique of performance.
Consistently maintains a professional and appropriate demeanor.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Skills and Requirement
Juris Doctorate Law school graduate and member in good standing of the State Bar required.
4+ Years as a Trial Attorney for legal defense of workers' compensation claims required.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in an articulate, persuasive, precise and professional manner.
Experience with training small groups in current legal practices and procedures in the field of workers’ compensation defense and subrogation.
Ability to lift legal files, including documents and exhibits, up to a weight of 15 pounds.
Must be willing and able to travel using all means of public transportation, as well as automobile driving, to various California venues when live appearances are requested or required.
Valid Driver License in good standing.
The expected salary range for this position is $126,470.29 to $158,087.87.
Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
