Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented
Temporary Payroll Specialist
to assist with critical year-end payroll adjustments. This role focuses on ensuring the accuracy of payroll data, implementing open enrollment changes, and preparing payroll records for tax reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong payroll background, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines. Key Responsibilities Year-End Payroll Adjustments
Review and implement payroll changes resulting from open enrollment, including updates to deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings. Ensure all payroll adjustments are accurate and compliant with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Perform detailed checks on final payroll runs to ensure accurate year-to-date totals for employee W-2s.
Compliance and Reporting
Verify that all payroll deductions and contributions (e.g., pre-tax, post-tax, retirement, and cafeteria plans) are correctly recorded in the payroll system. Identify and resolve discrepancies in payroll data to ensure compliance with company policies and tax laws. Assist in preparing payroll reports and documentation required for audits or tax filings. Prepare and review 401k federal audit Form 5500 for testing, compliance.
Employee Support
Respond to employee inquiries regarding year-end payroll adjustments, deductions, and W-2 accuracy. Collaborate with HR and benefits teams to address any issues related to payroll changes or benefits elections.
Process Improvement
Evaluate existing payroll processes and suggest improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Assist with documenting payroll procedures for compliance and audit readiness.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience. 3+ years of experience in payroll processing and payroll system management. Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Workday) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations and payroll compliance requirements. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Competencies Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with HR, employees, and external partners. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and accuracy in payroll data.
