The Engineer – Automation will provide automation support, mentoring, and knowledge sharing for one or more operating areas across site. This role will develop, implement, and continuously improve process automation solutions for Indianapolis Device Assembly and Packaging (IDAP) major capital projects. The role also involves building a network of colleagues both internally and externally to determine best practices and technology solutions. This role will be accountable for setting automation standards for major capital projects and initiatives, presenting to peers, site management, and offsite groups. Line Support: Provide support for automation systems in the area to which they are assigned Use problem-solving tools and collaborate with Process Team members to troubleshoot and provide solutions for automation issues Provide technical guidance to automation engineers Participate in root cause analysis for events Project Implementation: Participate as site automation lead for Major Capital projects and initiatives: Work with project leads to determine the automation scope for projects. Develop automation requirements and design for process systems. Work with the project team to ensure that design, code development, and testing approaches are in line with agreed standards. Provide regular updates to project and site management on progress and issues. Technical Contributions: Support site facilities startup and qualification activities (e.g., commissioning, C&Q activities, etc.) from the automation perspective. Propose major automation or process technology changes Execute investigations per site procedures Acts as site SME for proposed automation changes Understand how proposed system changes impact automation platforms Prepares robust technical / operational business cases for site leadership. Understand and actively support the delivery of key site strategic initiatives. Broad Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of area control strategies such as process controls, procedures, etc. Deep understanding of Data Flow, S95, MES, SAP, and its integration with controls systems. Deep knowledge in multiple technologies such as Vision, PLC, VFD, etc. Knowledge Sharing, Mentoring, & Collaboration: Mentor automation personnel in aspects of fundamental engineering automation principles, including understanding control system equipment, problem solving, engineering design, and project management. Provide training to automation systems users. (one-on-one or classroom sessions). Identify development needs of technical resources (including self and others) and propose strategies for education and training Stay abreast of the latest technology trends, applications, and Compliance requirements (Data Integrity, Cyber Security, etc). · Network with other engineers across Lilly sites Minimum Requirements: 5 years automation experience within GMP environment. Adequate interpersonal and communications skills to be able to work effectively in a team-based environment. Follow cGMP requirements and stay up to date with required training. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals. Ability to learn independently and seek growth opportunities. Additional Preferences: Previous experience as a process automation engineer or process engineer is desirable. Pharmaceutical experience is desirable. Computer System Validation experience is desirable. Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technology field. Other Information: 8-hour days, after-hour support.
