Flex, the trade association representing the app-based industry, is seeking its first Director of Outreach and External Affairs to help execute its government affairs and third-party engagement efforts. Candidates for this mid-level role should be willing to take initiative and generate creative ideas, and they must thrive in a fast-paced environment with a small team. This position will work closely with Flex’s Head of Public Policy and report to the Chief Executive Officer. A self-motivated and entrepreneurial position, the successful candidate will work with Flex’s team to tell the story of app-based work and services – to lawmakers, external stakeholders, and third party organizations. Responsibilities: Identify, develop, and maintain effective working relationships across Flex member companies’ government relations personnel and Administration/Congressional officials and staff. Engage third-party organizations to build support for the app-based industry. Build and maintain relationships with member companies’ coalition partners. Develop agendas for external meetings, and prepare relevant materials for such meetings as necessary. Develop and maintain relationships with Congressional offices and relevant federal agencies. Represent Flex in meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events. Coordinate Flex members to develop engagement strategies for committee hearings and legislation; effectively communicate key information to member companies. Help coordinate external government relations consultants/lobbyists. Qualifications: Minimum of five years of experience in DC, including/primarily on Capitol Hill and/or coalition management Demonstrated understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain deep working relationships with members of Congress and staff as well as other external stakeholders. Awareness of complex interplay between federal, state, and local policy issues / policymakers / member company interests Knowledge of technology, workforce policy, small business and/or transportation issues Ability to understand and work with bipartisan and diverse stakeholders Strong project management skills Comfortable speaking with and presenting to law-makers and public audiences Experience creating and coordinating events Strong writing and editing skills Authorized to work in the United States Total Compensation and Benefits include: Salary range: $140k - $170k dependent on experience 401k matching Full healthcare, dental, and vision benefits
