Job Objective: Hilcorp's Tax Department located in downtown Houston is seeking a highly qualified, self-motivated, enthusiastic, tax technical and computer savvy individual with excellent communication and collaboration skills. The ideal candidate should be driven to consistently bring value as an integral member of a high performing team where they will be challenged with applying their knowledge to multiple facets of income taxes including, but not limited to, performing various complex tax research and analysis projects, with emphasis on income and franchise issues as they pertain to oil and gas exploration business, assisting with tax determinations, completing monthly, quarterly and annual tax compliance assignments. Essential Job Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to assist the tax team in its day-to-day operations. Conduct tax compliance activities, preparing and filing assigned Federal and State partnership and S Corporation returns Assist in income/franchise tax determinations and research. Assist in preparing other Federal and State reporting as needed. Assist in monthly/quarterly accruals. Conduct tax research and analysis to confirm positions on various tax issues, to help minimize taxes where possible, assist in identifying tax planning opportunities and help draft tax memorandums and training documents as needed. Assist in preparation and maintenance of tax account reconciliations. Collaborate with outside 3rd party tax consultants and other accounting/finance functions. Creating and maintaining tax models and providing management with cash flow expectations. Monitoring tax law changes and incorporating them into tax team compliance. Work on special projects as identified by the team. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks, as needed. Maintains employee confidence and protects operations, including intellectual properties, by keeping information confidential. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations. Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings. Other Job Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications: Four (4) years direct experience in federal and state tax research/return preparation at another Oil and gas company or consulting firm. Ability to accurately solve problems and exceptional proficiency in data management including spreadsheet proficiency. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public. Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities without close supervision. Ability to perform tasks and achieve results with a high degree of accuracy and precision. Excellent administrative and organizational skills. Experienced in the use and application of the following software: Required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Required: knowledge of oil and gas accounting systems. Preferred : Specific knowledge and experience with SAP, FAS and OIT. Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year university or college. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: CPA Preferred
