The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for performing accounting duties in support of various accounting functions. The primary focus of this position is to ensure accurate and timely employee payroll, including tracking employee time, issuing paychecks and performing end of payroll period reporting and filings. This position is responsible for posting journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, account analysis and reports in accordance with GAAP and including supporting documentation. Duties include analyzing financial information and preparing financial reports by compiling information, utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures, processing payroll and maintaining an employee and vendor database of payments/compensation. The Senior Payroll Accountant performs their responsibilities with minimum supervision, and as part of the Finance team, working across departments to problem solve payroll-related matters. The Senior Payroll Accountant reports directly to the Controller. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Process biweekly payrolls in ADP in a timely and accurate manner • Maintain necessary and related spreadsheets for monthly reconciliation with general ledger and posting procedures • Prepare standard and/or recommend journal entries for payroll to the General Ledger • Support the preparation of the annual budget • Prepare schedules for year end and annual audit • Assist Controller with workers compensation annual audit and 403b audit • Reconcile monthly employee benefits payments between ADP, accounting and billing systems • Provide accounting reports and analyses, and assist in general accounting matters, as requested by Controller • Perform other related duties and participate in various projects as may be assigned • Ability to multi-task is essential and to function effectively and positively within a team environment The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years accounting and payroll experience; not-for-profit experience a plus. Discretion and sensitivity in handling and safeguarding confidential information. Strong adherence to ethical standards in accounting and internal policies for financial controls. Detail orientation with a high degree of accuracy in work. High degree of critical thinking skills necessary for problem solving. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with excellent command of Excel. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, payroll and cost control principles with an ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Ability to multi-task is essential to function effectively and positively within a team environment. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills necessary to convey information to internal and external constituents in a timely, clear, focused and concise manner.
