Berkel & Company Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Union/Payroll Tax Reporting Specialist to join the payroll team at our corporate office in Bonner Springs, Kansas. This position is responsible for all aspects of union and payroll tax compliance. This includes processing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual union and payroll tax filings. To be successful in this position one should be able to ensure that both union reports and payroll tax reports are processed accurately and in a timely manner. Responsibilities: Process tax checks, electronic deposits and filings for both unions and various tax agencies. Process union updates. Communicate with various unions and tax agencies to obtain information or resolve issues. Respond to employee’s union and payroll tax questions. Assist with maintaining taxes in the payroll system. Handle union/payroll tax audits – this includes maintaining accurate account balances and detailed records. Preparing union and payroll tax related reports. EOE/Minorities/Females/Veterans/Disability (Compliant with the new VEVRAA and Section 503 rules Job Requirements: Previous experience in payroll processing and/or accounting (2 years, preferred) Solid computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to work with a team and independently. Strong knowledge of payroll processes and relevant legal regulations. Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong math and analytical skills. Experience with both union and non-union payroll. High degree of confidentiality. Strong work ethic with ability to adapt to monthly, quarterly and year end work demands. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Our Union /Payroll Tax Specialist position is office based, requiring sitting for extended periods of time at a desk (90%), sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time (90%), and moderate walking (10%). Office environment requires ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization. Attendance: This is an in-person position at the corporate office. Attendance is critical to provide on-going service to customers and employees. Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday through Friday.
