The ideal candidate will support the full scope of Human Resources responsibilities and partner with the organization on strategic initiatives. They will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s culture, ensuring operational excellence, and supporting Umoja’s mission. The HR Manager will be responsible for implementing HR best practices, supporting employee engagement, managing benefits, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. This role requires a proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented HR professional with a commitment to Umoja’s mission, values, and strategic goals. Key Responsibilities: Talent Acquisition and Onboarding Lead recruitment efforts for open positions, working closely with hiring managers to define role requirements and develop effective job postings. Manage end-to-end recruitment processes, including screening, interviewing, and selecting candidates. Employee Relations and Engagement Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees on HR matters, fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace environment. Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives that align with Umoja’s mission and cultural values, including regular check-ins and engagement surveys. Policy Development and Compliance Ensure the organization’s policies and employee handbook are current and compliant with federal, state, and local labor laws. Update and maintain HR policies to support Umoja’s commitment to operational excellence and transparency, including tracking policy updates from audits and strategic plans. Performance Management Oversee the performance review process, including setting timelines, guiding managers in delivering constructive feedback, and ensuring evaluations are completed consistently and fairly. Partner with leadership to support employee development and growth through performance improvement plans, training, and professional development opportunities. Compensation and Benefits Administration Manage employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives, ensuring competitive and compliant offerings. Serve as a resource for employees on benefits enrollment, coverage, and eligibility questions, maintaining open communication on benefits changes or updates. Training and Development Identify and address training needs across the organization, developing or sourcing programs related to leadership, cultural competency, and compliance. Support the establishment of a learning community at Umoja focused on African-centered education, culturally responsive practices, and strategies for Black student success. Data Management and Reporting Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, ensuring data integrity and compliance with data protection regulations. Track key HR metrics (e.g., turnover, engagement scores, diversity statistics) and prepare reports to inform HR strategy and decision-making. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred. Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, including employee relations, recruitment, and benefits administration. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience working in culturally responsive organizations or educational settings. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Salary Range: $75,000 - $90, 000
