ABOUT CVRAN Established in 2015, the Central Vermont Refugee Action Network (CVRAN) is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Montpelier, Vermont.

The mission of the Central Vermont Refugee Action Network (CVRAN) is to welcome and provide support to refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and migrant workers living in, working in, and visiting Central Vermont.

Our vision is to build, in partnership with others, a vibrant, inclusive global community in Central Vermont, where refugees and asylum seekers find hope, engagement, empowerment, and a strong sense of belonging.

JOB DESCRIPTION Runs organization under guidance of board. Inspires and leads others to join in on the mission and vision of CVRAN, and is personally dedicated to the purposes of CVRAN. Is aware of the roots of the organization and looks to its present and future at both an operational and strategic level. Handles day-to-day operations, including addressing the organization’s legal, financial, and personnel responsibilities. Manages fundraising and grant writing activities and works with the board in developing long-term strategies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations & Communications

Reinforces focus on the organization’s mission and vision to ensure clear purpose across all activities.

Creates a positive work environment, tracks accomplishments and needs, communicates clearly within the organization and with external contacts; values both in-person and electronic communication.

Collaborates closely with the board, executive team, and committees to discuss organizational direction, provide regular updates, and draw on board members’ skills.

Works with the Coordinator of Direct Services to monitor, develop, and improve direct service work. Maintains awareness of team progress and challenges, assists with crisis management, and reviews team finances.

Works with the Coordinator of Direct Services to: 1) Optimize recruitment of team members and team leaders, as well as team training; 2) Help develop policies for clients, teams, host families, and volunteers; 3) Help determine capacity for newcomers, ensuring teams are prepared and resources are sufficient.

Keeps in contact with key individual volunteers such as the pro bono lawyer.

Maintains regular communication with the March Arts Marathon Coordinator from December to mid-April for CVRAN’s key fundraiser.

Collaborates with the Media Committee to create and edit website content and manages the calendar.

Manages employees, including hiring, supervising, and consulting with the executive team.

Legal Responsibilities & Financial Health

Shares legal and financial management responsibilities with the board; signs official documents as needed.

Is aware of legal case statuses for CVRAN newcomers.

Work towards long-term financial health of CVRAN.

Works with Treasurer, Finance Committee, Fundraising Committee, Affordable Housing Committee, and Direct Services Coordinator on financial matters, including but not limited to operational expenses, family budgets & stipends, fundraising goals, and grant management.

Drafts annual budgets for board approval.

Outreach

Clarifies the CVRAN mission and operations to the public.

Represents CVRAN to other organizations, including the regional umbrella group of like organizations.

Serves as an advocate and spokesperson for CVRAN with the community and funders.

Advocates for the needs of New Vermonters, both those whom we know and those beyond.

QUALIFICATIONS

Proven experience in nonprofit leadership and community-based work.

Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and collaborate with diverse groups of people, including staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Strong financial management experience. Fundraising experience preferred.

Understanding of issues affecting refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and migrant workers.

M.A. in Nonprofit Management or related field preferred.

Familiarity with Vermont’s nonprofit sector and community resources is a plus.

HOURS

Full-time, 40 hours per week, with flexible hours. Some evenings and weekends required.

LOCATION:

Central Vermont (Works from home but must reside locally for in-person meetings and other engagements.)

SALARY RANGE:

$65,000 – $80,000

Stipend at 25% of salary for health, vision, dental, retirement, and other pre-tax benefits. 12 Floating Holidays, plus 18 days PTO (sick days and vacation) accrued annually. Salary adjusted annually for inflation.
