Camp Cherokee Daily Program Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide safe and fun programs through effective program design and implementation, specific to camper age differences at Camp Cherokee. Effectively manage and evaluate summer camp staff in providing high quality programming. Plan, manage and supervise safe and fun programs to campers. Ensure lesson plans are completed and implemented to deliver high-quality programs to campers. Evaluate program delivery abilities of staff members. Manage daily program success and the development of the campers’ skills and abilities, specifically evaluating age differences. Ensure that campers and staff have access to drinking water daily at each program area. Communicate all daily camp program needs and expectations with staff. Manage camper daily program class sign up process. Manage class occupancy limits compared to equipment and program spacing. Focus on skill development to campers. Manage the upkeep of all programming facilities, areas and equipment. Create an inventory and manage all programming equipment. Discuss planning and implementation during staff training(s). Ensure campers and staff adhere to safety precautions when participating in programing. Manage program areas and ensure hazards are kept to a minimum. Conduct daily checks of all program facilities and equipment. Create and facilitate program schedules for all campers and staff. Develop and manage camper and staff program schedules. Maintain camper swim restrictions and age limitations with programming activities. Manage daily program class transition periods. Assist other program staff when needed. Opening/ Closing Day Responsibilities Assist Evening Program Director Plan and supervise campers and staff during “bridge” sessions. Actively assist in “OD” responsibilities. Assist with supervision during off site trips. Identify, maintain and create an inventory of all program equipment. Note when repairs are needed or new program materials are needed.

Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age or have completed at least two years of college. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR. Must attend all pre-camp training, retreats, and opening training session. Possess leadership qualities and ability to use sound judgment. Good health, enthusiasm, individual maturity, moral character, team qualities, and communication skills. Possess interest in the development of children. Must be able to endure hot temperatures, physical exertion, manual labor, behavioral conflicts, and must be able to walk, run, and swim every day. Physical requirements of the Daily Program Director at Camp Cherokee include endurance during prolonged activities, bending, stooping and lifting. Other physical aspects include the ability to observe and manipulate program activities, to meet the needs and skill levels of both campers and staff members.
