The American Physical Therapy Association of New Jersey (APTANJ) is recruiting for an Executive Director. This position is a contracted, full-time leadership position with multiple responsibilities. In addition to maintaining the office at optimal efficiency, the duties include promotion of the Physical Therapy profession, working in collaboration with professional consultants, national office, Council of Directors, and executive committee. Applicant should have solid knowledge of the physical therapy profession or medical advocacy associations and demonstrated leadership abilities. The position of the APTANJ Executive Director is equal to that of any senior operating officer employed by any professional organization. As such, the Executive Director assumes control and management of the day-to-day business and affairs of the APTANJ. It is essential that the employee brings to the position the ability to adopt broad, comprehensive views of the APTANJ’s objectives, as well as an ability to establish and implement the steps necessary to attain these objectives. The Executive Director shall manage and direct all activities of the APTANJ as prescribed by the APTANJ Council of Directors (“COD”) and/or the COD Executive Committee (the “Executive Committee”) as permitted by the Bylaws. The Executive Director shall report to the President of the APTANJ (the “President”) and the COD. Key Responsibilities
Acting as coordinator for and overseeing all committees, task forces, programs, services, and activities, assisting the President and COD in executing such programs as they may propose or promulgate. Attending membership meetings of the APTANJ, Executive Committee and COD meetings, national meetings, and upon the request of the President or COD, regional membership meetings and programs. Focusing on membership engagement and growth, specifically engaging with physical therapy schools in New Jersey. Managing the day-to-day business operations and affairs as well as the staff of the APTANJ’s headquarters. Developing an annual operating budget with the APTANJ’s Treasurer and the finance committee, and managing the approved budget for each fiscal year. Procuring products and/or services within the budget approved by the COD which are deemed necessary to carry on the work of the APTANJ. Managing the day-to-day accounting, including managing and reconciling all accounts as well as credit card processing. Providing the accountant with all necessary information to complete all state and federal tax reports and corporate filings in a timely fashion. Acting as the primary liaison to the membership of the APTANJ, responding to member inquiries in a timely fashion. Working alongside the APTANJ’s government relations specialists and legal counsel as necessary. Facilitating the work of and acting as liaison to the consultants and professionals engaged by the APTANJ, including but not limited to legislative agents and legal counsel. Acting as chief liaison with other community organizations and key constituent groups. Maintaining and updating the membership records of the APTANJ. Facilitating the development of activities, programs, and promotions to increase APTANJ membership. Generating non-dues revenue for the APTANJ. Overseeing operational services including website development and operations, social media, and information and technology systems. Ensuring that recurring operational issues are reviewed annually for cost-savings, improved efficiencies, and relevance. Overseeing and coordinating the elections of the APTANJ in accordance with the Bylaws. Performing any other duties deemed necessary by the Executive Committee of COD.
