DescriptionVitalant Research Institute (VRI), affiliated with UCSF, seeks a mid-career epidemiologist to join our research team in blood donor studies, transfusion safety, and viral epidemiology. This role will support grant-funded projects investigating viral prevalence, disease pathogenesis, and donor characteristics, and involves study design consultation, project management for large multicenter studies, and database management within VRI’s epidemiology core.As the Epidemiology Core Director, you will lead a team of 4-8 staff, overseeing projects from start to finish to ensure they meet requirements, schedules, and research goals. A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Epidemiology or a related field is required, along with experience in study management, staff supervision, and peer-reviewed publications. Manage daily lab operations, including resource allocation, workload distribution, and supply orders. Prepare and submit scientific publications to peer-reviewed journals. Contribute to research proposal and grant document preparation, including data analysis and report generation using statistical and graphics software. Oversee database management and perform statistical analyses for research data. Design and conduct experiments, perform data analysis, and support manuscript development. Develop new assays or research techniques as needed. Ensure confidentiality of clinical and research data in compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations. Maintain professional networks, stay updated on field advancements, and oversee program budget management.#ITCORPRequirements MS or MPH in related field required; MD, PhD, or DrPH preferred. Proficient in routine and specialized assay development and manuscript preparation. Strong theoretical understanding of relevant research. Minimum 3 years as Staff Scientist or similar, with supervisory experience. Five first-author publications in PubMed or career development award required. Advanced research skills and clinical/research technique knowledge. Strong analytical, organizational, and detail-oriented abilities. Proficient in statistical analysis software and able to explain theoretical concepts.
