Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:
You will be working as part of the HVAC team designing the areas of the HVAC systems and or support utilities used to support the treatment and vitrification processes. You will be preparing technical reports, studies, procurement documentation, and design documentation, performing calculations using engineering software, and supporting systems. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in HVAC design and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Ventilation and Instrumentation diagrams and equipment data sheets. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.

Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.


Major Responsibilities:
Level 1
• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
• Participates in the design, development and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
• Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
• Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
• Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
• Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Level 2
• Evaluates, small size project or assignment in support of a global business unitor staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications
• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Standard Application Programs (SAPs)
• Prepares mechanical engineering reports for clients as required
• Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
• When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects
• Mentors and assists more junior mechanical team members
• Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
• Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability

Education and Experience Requirements:
Level 1
• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Level 2
• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Professional Engineers license (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering.
• Experience in producing HVAC Load Calculations, ductwork design and equipment selection for nuclear HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of ASME AG-1, ASHRAE, SMACNA standards, and experience with DOE Nuclear Cleaning Handbook and guides.
• Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
