HRC’s current working model consists of 4 days in-office and 1 day remote. This position is located within our Grand Rapids, Michigan office.  

Position Description:

The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and will be responsible for roadway geometric design, drainage calculations, quantity calculations, and the preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal and MDOT roadway/highway projects.

In this position, you will be working under the supervision and direction of the Associate in charge of Transportation work in the Grand Rapids office covering the West Michigan Region.

Position Description:

The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and will be responsible for roadway geometric design, drainage calculations, quantity calculations, and the preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal and MDOT roadway/highway projects.

In this position, you will be working under the supervision and direction of the Associate in charge of Transportation work in the Grand Rapids office covering the West Michigan Region.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in roadway geometric design and drainage design.
  • Experience with maintenance of traffic design and staging plans is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, and enjoy working in a team environment.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • A Michigan Professional Engineer License (or ability to obtain within 6 to 12 months).
  • 3-7 years of experience involving roadway/highway design.
  • Prepare construction plans, estimates, specifications and bid documents for roadway and highway projects for MDOT and local municipalities according to applicable agency standards
  • Utility coordination and relocation
  • Storm water drainage design
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with MicroStation/InRoads and Auto Turn. 
  • The desire to train and mentor entry-level engineers and interns.
