Overview

The City Auditor's Office is seeking an experienced audit professional to assist in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities decreed by City ordinance. This position will assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting performance, operational, and compliance audits for departments, programs, functions, and contracts of the City of Corpus Christi. Audits are conducted in accordance with generally accepted government audit standards established by the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

Responsibilities

* Assists in conducting pre-audit interviews, researching laws, analyzing risk, and reviewing background material to plan the audit. * Creates process flow charts, perform tests of internal control, transaction testing of financial and non-financial information, and data analysis and trending using spreadsheets and data mining software (ACL). * Attends exit conferences with department heads, prepares draft audit reports, and presents audit results to the Council Audit Committee. * Depending on the level of experience, the auditor may be designated as lead auditor. * Understands audit standards and accounting principles and have knowledge of internal control systems and management principles. * Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidential information. * Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex issues while maintaining composure under stress. * May be required to travel to conferences and seminars to remain compliant with audit standards, develop or strengthen audit skills, and gain the knowledge needed to pursue a professional audit certification such as the CIA. * Conducts investigations into allegations received from the City Auditor's Hotline for Fraud, Waste, and Abuse. * May be required to travel to various locations in the city to conduct unannounced cash counts. * In the absence of administrative staff, the auditor will greet clients, answer telephone calls, prepare purchase orders, and other routine administrative tasks. * May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

* Exempt - Full-Time * Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement * In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) * Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

* A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Preferred

* Certified Internal Auditor * Certified Fraud Examiner * Certified Public Accountant

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
