Position Summary The Executive Director of Development will oversee the range of fundraising activities related to established priorities for assigned gift officers and administrative team members within LMU's development team. Under the direction of the Vice President for Development, and in collaboration with other team members within University Advancement and the University, the executive director will design, implement, and manage a comprehensive program to secure private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The executive director will integrate and expand programs for principal, major and special gifts into a cohesive plan to achieve stated objectives. The primary focus of this position is to provide team leadership, strategy for major and principal gift fundraising, volunteer management and oversight of administrative support to the development team. The position will be responsible for building strong relationships with unit heads and will play an important role in managing the gift officers to ensure success in achieving aggressive metrics and annual goals.

Position Specific Responsibilities
Serve as a member of the development senior management team while supervising gifts officers responsible for strategy, goal setting, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of special, major and principal level gifts for assigned units and regions. Develop annual and multi-year fundraising plans for assigned areas to support funding priorities that advance key unit and University priorities and initiatives. Oversee discovery efforts to enhance and grow the development pipeline. Achieve annual and campaign goals. Create professional development plans for direct and indirect reports in area of oversight. (40%)
Develop strong partnerships and relationships with assigned unit heads, serving as a key liaison to University Advancement. Maintain knowledge of all priorities within the University, and lead strategy development for donor-centric solicitations. Provide leadership and counsel on strategies regarding unit-specific volunteer boards and committees. (25%)
Personally manage a small portfolio of major and principal gift prospects. Cultivate, solicit, and close transformative gifts in support of university funding priorities. (25%)
Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (10%)

Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Bachelor's Degree is required. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Minimum ten years of successful major gift fundraising experience. Experience in raising funds from individuals; demonstrated success as a creative and effective manager with expertise in personnel management, strategic planning, program implementation, and fiscal management; preferred experience in an academic environment, especially at large, complex institutions; demonstrate success in developing an effective volunteer structure. Seeking professionals with varied backgrounds, abilities, experiences, thoughts and ideas.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects and personally ask and close gifts. Willingness to travel and work occasional weekend/evening hours. Deal effectively and comfortably with high-level donor prospects. A self-directed worker who is personable and well organized. Utilize a creative approach to fundraising projects. Ability to effectively communicate the vision, values and mission of Loyola Marymount University.
Experience in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Highly developed organizational, communication and leadership skills.
Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products as well as familiarity with the Advance system or an equivalent CRM system.
