Shift Supervisor

The Shift Supervisor is primarily responsible for ensuring the expected service delivery of residential services for all
children in care. The Shift Supervisor supervises and coordinates the daily operations and direct care staff of their
designated shift to ensure the safety and well-being of all children in care and to ensure delivery of residential
services. The Shift Supervisor is tasked with creating a safe environment conducive to learning and behavioral
management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Leadership and Supervision:
o Responsible for general oversight and coordination of the youth care workers assigned to
their shift.
o Assign duties, delegate responsibilities, and monitor performance to ensure the smooth
operation of the shift and adherence to established policies and procedures.
o Implements and updates staff work schedules to meet required ratios and manage
overtime.
o Responsible for the direct supervision of youth care workers and children in care.
o Plans and coordinates special events, acculturation activities, holiday celebrations,
outings, leisure and large muscle group activities, ensuring implementation of the
schedule.
o Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free facility/home, including regular maintenance and
cleaning. Assist with household chores as needed.
o Ensure that all documentation is completed according to policy and adhere to VQ, ORR
and Licensing reporting standards.
o Assist in the evacuation of children as needed.
o Organize, facilitate and attend team meetings and ensure staff attendance.
o Work with other members of the management team for successful communication and
coordination.
o Attend all departmental and program meetings for updates and policy changes.
o Continued growth and development as a leader, leading by example with commitment to
self awareness and skill development. • Workforce Development:
o Build a positive culture that supports growth, teamwork and collaboration with an
emphasis on trauma informed care.
o Motivate, supervise, and develop the team to support service integration and program
improvement initiatives.
o Supervise, guide, and mentor program staff towards delivering high-quality services,
including assisting in their recruitment and training, and encouraging their continuous
professional development.
o Responsibility for ensuring ongoing training occurs to meet all state and federal mandates.
o Develop corrective action plans or disciplinary memos to address performance issues of
direct care staff in collaboration with the Program Director and Assistant Program
Director. • Direct Care and Child Advocacy:
o Review ORR placement requests.
o Complete intake and program orientation for new arrivals.
o Assign and complete bed movements and ensure all children receive needed
accommodations. Ensure compliance with licensing regulations.
o Assist with OTC & prescribed medication
o Responsible for the documentation of the child's progress, behavior, and health while in
care.
o Conduct intake and property inventory upon the child's arrival.
o Provide essential needs to children such as meals, clothing, hygiene products, shower, and
bedroom assignments.
o Develop positive rapport with youth and serve as a role model.
o Interact with children including playing games or during recreational time.
o Teach, coach, and supervise children in activities of daily living.
o Assist with children's legal, medical, and dental appointments.
o Assist with child reunifications.
o Ensure child rights are upheld and all residents are aware of the grievance procedure.
o Responsible for the distribution and documentation of medications to youth. • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Strong management, organizational and leadership skills. • Commitment to professional development and proactive research. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Organized with attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and as a team member. • Must be able to demonstrate ability to be culturally sensitive and understanding of all children served. • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information. • Must be able to assist with emergency situations. • Demonstrate and maintain emotional intelligence for effective self-care and as a role-model for the youth
care worker team. • Ability to follow established policies and procedures. • Ability to collaborate with peers, colleagues, and others to achieve mission goals and objectives. • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Drive) with the ability to learn
new software. • Proficient in reading, interpreting and applying ORR P&P.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: • High school diploma or equivalent degree. • A minimum of 1 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children
and/or adolescents. • Related supervisory experience is highly preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be 21 years of age or older. • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred. • Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services. • Cleared tuberculosis test results. • Must be able to pass a drug test. • Must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations. • Cleared background checks from appropriate entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI
criminal background. • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification. • Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds
infrequently. • Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50%of the day. • May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary. • Must be able to provide First Aid and CPR. • Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in Crisis Prevention Intervention training
(CPI).
