DoD SkillBridge - Accountant (Active Duty Military Only)

Through DoD SkillBridge and Hiring Our Heroes, Sierra Nevada Corporation provides internships to service members transitioning to the civilian workforce. These internships include up to six months of on-the-job training for eligible service members. During this time, participants gain valuable work experience in the civilian sector and build professional networks as they prepare for their transition to full-time civilian work.
As an Accountant at SNC, you will learn to apply accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. You will support the control of accounts and records in such areas as disbursements, expenses, tax payments, and income. You will compile and analyze financial information to record transactions, prepare reconciliation, reports, and review and verify accuracy. Prepares accounting schedules and reports. And you will be responsible for the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures.
As SNC's corporate team, we provide the company and its business areas with strategic direction and business support spanning executive management, finance and accounting, operations, human resources, legal, IT, information security, facilities, marketing, and communications.
Responsibilities:
Accurately prepare adjusting journal entries
Analyze account variances to provide a narrative for management review
Prepare account reconciliations
Assist in process and system improvements
Cross-departmental communication in support of transactions
Provide solutions for further automation of assigned tasks
Review allocation coding on indirect purchase requests
Learn company process and continually look for efficiencies and ways to automate
Must Haves:
Currently serving as active duty military and eligible to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
Typically 0-3 or more years of relevant experience
Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
Relevant experience (in Accounting) may be considered in lieu of required education
Working knowledge of GAAP
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel data analysis and macros
Detail oriented with strong analytical abilities
Strong organizational skills
Previous exposure to automated accounting systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work collaboratively in a team
Preferred:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or pursuing
Experience with MS Office products: Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
