Role Summary:
The Assembly Team Lead is a 2nd shift position and a senior level assembler or mechanic with experience in a diverse range of rotating equipment including, but not limited to, BBx, OHx, vertical pumps, small compressors, and other high energy pumps.
The Lead will be responsible for assigning work within the assembly area while supporting the assemblers within their area. The Lead will be the liaison between the assembly area and shop management. The Lead will help other assemblers understand and interpret work instructions, routers, drawings, and checklists. This position is a working lead and so they are responsible for working as a Precision Assembler.
In addition, they will help mechanics select and use inspection equipment to check dimensions of all critical components during the assembly and repair process. Ensures all components are properly cleaned and free from foreign material following our FME (Foreign Material Exclusion) procedures. Ensures all forms and documentation is complete with photos as required. The lead will ensure each pump is painted, tagged, and prepped for shipment as per customer requirements.
This is a 2nd shift position (3 pm - 11:00 pm) - 10% shift differential
Responsibilities:
Work safely while helping colleagues work safely and utilizing Stop Work Authority when appropriate.
Lead the assembly work group in the day-to-day activities, which includes assignment of work among the team, ensuring compliance with routers and router sign offs, and final inspection checklist completion.
Provide written shift turnover notes as the end of each workday.
Assist team members to ensure they have correct tools for the job and are following sound work processes.
Ability to independently repair and assemble BBx, OHx, Vertical Pumps, API pumps, ANSI pumps, Vacuum pumps, and other specialized high energy rotating equipment.
Provide in-process support to assembly team as needed to select tools and instruments to repair rotating equipment.
Be an example of taking pride in the work and showcasing quality workmanship by using sound mechanical assembly principles and techniques.
Significant experience with the proper and safe use of various common power and hand tools needed to assemble rotating equipment.
Utilize torches (and other heat sources) and liquid nitrogen properly and safely in the assembly process.
Clearly document critical or indicated fits and dimensions in decimal form on checklists and inspection documents – including taking photos as needed.
Interface with production planners and customers to discuss the condition of all critical pump components when necessary.
Lead and participate in Pre-Job briefs with team leads and peers to understand job expectations.
Follow all routers and assembly procedures needed to accurately repair and assemble rotating equipment.
Willing to provide input on router and work process improvement.
Run balance machine to proper balance rotating components and assemblies.
Ensure each job is painted, tagged, inspected, and signed off for shipping preparation.
Conduct low pressure air tests and high-pressure hydrostatic tests.
Coach assembly team to work efficiently within fixed time windows for each manufacturing process.
Willingness to work with local team on developing new tools and hardware as part of on-going Continuous Improvement projects within the facility.
Comply with all Flowserve policies and procedures, specifically around time and attendance, safety, and productivity.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
5+ years of rotating equipment repair experience.
Experience working the fast-paced and unpredictable environment around repair services.
Able to read and interpret prints, shop drawings, assembly checklists, and other written work instructions.
Accurately set up and read precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and other gauges.
Knowledge of service environment activities including DCI, machining, assembly, test, and field service for rotating equipment.
Basic computer aptitude to learn data entry systems as well as Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English and able to effectively understand work instructions, safety procedures, and company policies.
Must be able to effectively communicate job status and support handovers from shift to shift.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds with a full range of hand and upper-body motion to work with tools and parts.
Experience working in a cross-functional, diverse, and responsive team
Experience or a desire to provide hands on coaching to teams through positive leadership.
Excellent organizational skills.
Must be able and willing to work overtime hours including weekends and holidays when dictated by customer emergencies and business needs.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
Preferred skills:
Owns set of personal SAE hand tools and measurement instruments (micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, etc.) and a roll-around toolbox
