Job Overview:

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will support the accounting activities for Party City. As the Staff Accountant, you will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, tracking manufacturing costs, and ensuring proper inventory and cost accounting. This role will work closely with the finance and operations teams to provide essential data and analysis to support decision-making.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in tracking and recording manufacturing costs, including material, labor, and overhead.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure that costs are correctly applied to work-in-process and finished goods.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries related to manufacturing, cost of goods sold (COGS), and inventory.
  • Perform reconciliations of manufacturing variances such as material usage, labor efficiency, and overhead allocations.
  • Support the month-end close process by ensuring all manufacturing-related transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Monitor and reconcile physical inventory counts with the financial records.
  • Perform monthly inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist in the valuation of inventory, including proper costing of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures for manufacturing and inventory accounting.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls for cost tracking, inventory management, and financial reporting.
  • Support audits related to manufacturing accounting, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for improving accounting processes related to manufacturing and inventory.
  • Work with the finance and operations teams to streamline reporting and enhance cost-tracking systems.
  • Assist with the implementation of Oracle system enhancements related to the manufacturing component.
  • Work with supply chain, manufacturing, and IT teams to optimize Sage and other financial systems used for cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Participation in other related projects and/or duties as required
Skills Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to manufacturing or cost accounting.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting
  • Exposure to financial tools like Oracle and BPCS is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and basic manufacturing accounting principles is a plus.
Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with wholesale distribution accounting processes.
  • Proven ability to drive process improvements and increase operational efficiency.
