Associate Director of Elementary Programs
ABOUT US Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations. Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models. JOB OVERVIEW Apex’s Elementary Enrichment Department addresses the educational, social, and emotional needs of elementary students through out-of-school enrichment programs, family nights, and community events. Programs take place on Saturdays from October – May. Elementary Enrichment also offers summer programming during July – August. These programs are run by staff with support from volunteers. The Associate Director of Elementary Programs oversees a team of 6 full-time staff members (4 program managers and 2 coordinators) and 9 part-time facilitators. This role directly supervises four program managers, including the K-2 Program Manager, and the Elementary Program Managers in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. The Associate Director will report to the Deputy Director of Programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in working with elementary-aged youth, excellent program management skills, and experience supervising staff. RESPONSIBILITIES Program Management (50%) Oversee all aspects of Elementary Enrichment Programs including program design, partnership development and management, curriculum development, and supervision and training of staff; Provide supervision and ongoing support to a team of four elementary program managers including the K-2 Program Manager, and the Elementary Program Managers that lead the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens sites; Oversee the recruitment and enrollment of all students in the Elementary Enrichment programs; Oversee the recruitment, intake, placement, and training process for all elementary volunteers; Lead the recruitment, hiring, and training of part-time facilitators each year; Create and manage Elementary Enrichment department’s budget in collaboration with the Operations department; Oversee collection and analysis of program data with the support of program managers and the Program Data Analysis Manager. Partnerships & Events (35%) Lead event-planning for major events and outings with the support of program managers; Lead the development and expansion of Elementary programming within Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens; Manage the Elementary Enrichment program’s relationship with the Development department for fundraising and event needs; Collaborate with the Mental Health Department to support elementary youth; Collaborate with Athletics program and Mentoring program teams to successfully support and retain youth across programs; Foster relationships with external organizations to collaborate on programming and events. Other Duties (15%) Actively participate as a vocal member of the program leadership team, leading the vision, and development for Elementary Enrichment programming at Apex; Attend all program and leadership meetings, as necessary. QUALIFICATIONS BA or BS preferred; 5-7 years experience working with youth in a management role preferred; Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to create genuine relationships; Proactive nature and self-starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously; Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail; Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; Experience working with low-income and first-generation students is a plus; Demonstrates commitment to Apex for Youth’s mission, vision, and core values; Enjoys working closely with a team, as well as independently; Ability to work in-person on Saturdays, and take Sunday and Monday as the weekend. Salary range : The salary range for this position is $80,000-92,000 depending on experience. Overview of Benefits Paid time off:
In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization. Medical and other benefits:
