Overview
Kirby Inland Marine is now hiring a Charter Operations Supervisor in Channelview, TX 77530. The Charter Operations Supervisor will be responsible for the management and vetting of the third part charter companies, designated as Category C in the Kirby SMS.
Responsibilities
Develop relationships with the assigned Charter Owner Company management and understand their SMS and culture. Evaluate the performance of vessels in the assigned fleet, and develop plans with the management of the owning company to improve performance. Influence the performance of assign companies and vessels through quarterly evaluation meetings, targeting areas needing improvement and developing initiatives to impact the areas. Visit vessels to: Conduct Safety Meetings with the crews Conduct Vessel Safety and Quality Audits on the vessels Update the software on Kirby computers Complete work place safety observations
Coordinate with owners to develop repair plans and schedules, to be communicated to Kirby traffic. Develop relationships with third party fleets and horsepower provides. Respond to incidents and serve as the on-scene incident commander as assigned. Investigate incidents involving vessels with the individual assigned fleet, looking for systemic improvements that will impact the entire vessel operations within Kirby and communicate those initiatives through the MOC and procedure change processes. Develop relationships with the Category C charter companies and fleet operators. Manage the vetting of the Category C companies, including: The Administration of the annual questionnaire and follow-up meeting. Conduct the office visit and audits on each vessel every three years. Complete vessel audits. Coordinate with the company to complete and approve investigations following incidents.
Travel to the company offices and sites will be required to facilitate the required audits and visits. Develop an audit plan, to ensure the required audits, visits, and questionnaires remain current and are kept up to date. Influence the performance of Category C companies through the sharing of best practices during audits, visits, and investigations. Coordinate with the Kirby Insurance Coordinator maintain the required COIs. Populate and maintain data within the tracking database, to clearly communicate the status of each company. Complete initial research and establish contact with potential new companies, as assigned, based on need and location. Participate in the monthly and quarterly meetings, including the presentations to the group. Participate in committees as assigned. Maintain a safety focus, exhibiting Stop Work Responsibility when needed. Qualifications
Organized, detail-oriented and accurate. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Oasis). Good organizational and time management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both Internal as well as External Customers. Ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment. Ability to operate a company motor vehicle. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Presentation and training skills. Education/ Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum 1 years’ experience in the marine industry preferred.
