This position will serve as the 4-H Camp Overlook Summer Camp Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Franklin County. 4-H Camp Overlook is owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties. The mission of 4-H Camp Overlook is to provide a natural Adirondack environment where groups, under the guidance of positive role models, take part in a personal growth experience that emphasizes community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness, skill building, and having fun. This position will oversee all aspects of daily operations of a residential youth summer camp. Duties include, but are not limited to: personnel management and supervision, program development and implementation, health and safety management, public relations, and fiscal oversight of designated program budgets. Must follow 4-H, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), American Camp Association (ACA) and New York State Department of Health and New York State Department of Labor guidelines in performing all position duties. This position will provide supervision to Association Temporary Camp positions throughout the summer camp season.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time exempt position, Sunday through Friday. The rate for this position is $750 to $900 per week commensurate on experience.
POSITION INFORMATION:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. If no Bachelor's degree, employee must be at least 25 years old with relevant experience to comply with NYS DOH regulations.
Current CPR and Responding to Emergencies First Aid certifications (will train if necessary).
Youth camping administrative experience.
Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Must have the visual, auditory and physical ability and endurance to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, physical restraint, or physical activity (i.e. running).
Must have the ability to reside on-site for eight (8) weeks of the traditional summer camp season.
Preferred Qualifications:
Coursework in education and/or camping.
At least two (2) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience in an organized camp.
Demonstrated initiative, reliability and dependability.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, implement and teach informal educational programs.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible, enthusiastic, have a sense of humor, and exercise patience and self-control.

Position Responsibilities:
Program Development - 5%
Assist the Team Leader to interpret Association program direction to create educational programs for 4-H Camp Overlook.
Structure programs to meet the need of diverse 4-H Camp Overlook program participants
Assist Team Leader in the design of developmentally appropriate leadership training programs for various ages, maturity levels and skills.
Assist Team Leader in the development of camper activities and classes.
Develop routines, schedules, and procedures for camp operation.
Program Evaluation - 5%
Implement program evaluation as designed.
Assist Team Leader in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
Direction - 5%
Assist with fundraising efforts in coordination with the Team Leader.
Management - 60%
Assist in identifying and recommending program needs to the Team Leader.
Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise at 4-H Camp Overlook and in all programs associated with 4-H Camp Overlook utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
Provide complex administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of the program budget, to include: providing management and oversight of the budget (operating income and expenses) to ensure the program is within established parameters.
Manage allocation of financial resources to accomplish 4-H Camp Overlook programming objectives.
Provide management (including recruitment and selection) and supervision (including guidance, performance feedback and annual performance reviews) to designated staff in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocol, and provide regular staffing updates to the Team Leader and/or Executive Director as required.
Provide management and oversight of all aspects of health, safety, and risk management of all programs and related facilities for 4-H Camp Overlook.
Oversee all aspects of daily operations of a residential youth summer camp.
Assist in maintaining/updating the Camp Safety Manual to ensure that it is in compliance with Department of Health regulations.
Manage camp store.
Provide input and guidance to the Team Leader, Camp Administrator and Maintenance Staff in order to maintain site safety.
Log any illnesses or accidents and report as necessary to the Team Leader, Camp Administrator and Health Department.
Manage health and safety records.
Coordination/Operation - 20%
Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H Camp Overlook Programming.
Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
Initiate and maintain effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
Coordinate employment, training and scheduling of 4-H Camp Overlook Program staff.
Compile already-existing resources into educational program materials.
Implement established program schedule at 4-H Camp Overlook.
Collect program evaluation and program needs assessment data based on existing framework.
Assist in coordinating the program implementation, planning and activities efforts for 4-H Camp Overlook.
Represent 4-H Camp Overlook and Cornell Cooperative Extension at community functions, meetings or events as appropriate.
Prepare for the opening of the season including inventory of equipment and educational materials as well as completing requisition forms for new materials.
Maintain health and safety records.
Keep in direct communication with the Team Leader regarding camper and staff activities.
This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
