Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Data Engineer to support KITS and our government customer. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This is a Remote opportunity.

Koniag IT Solutions is in search of a talented Data Engineer to join our team. The Data Engineer will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining data systems to support business needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing, with expertise in data manipulation and transformation.

We are seeking a highly skilled and technical Data Engineer/Developer with strong DevOps experience to join our team. This role will focus on data modeling, building and optimizing data engineering pipelines, implementing CI/CD practices, and developing serverless functions, across AWS and Azure environments. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing both data engineering and infrastructure requirements to support seamless data processing, deployment, and monitoring.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field

5+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or similar technical roles

Demonstrated expertise in database systems, data warehousing, and ETL processes

Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance

Required Skills and Competencies:

Data Engineering and Development:

Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and non-relational database

Knowledge of data modeling, schema design principles, and data normalization

Experience with data migrations from legacy data systems (e.g., MS Access, SQL Server, SharePoint)

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with experience in building data pipelines

Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and their application in ETL workflows

Familiarity with data processing in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

DevOps and CI/CD:

Proven experience setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflows

Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Github actions, AWS Code Pipeline and Azure pipeline

Expertise in containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager

Familiarity with version control (Git) and best practices in source code management

Serverless and Cloud Functions:

Experience building and deploying serverless functions, including AWS Lambda and Azure Functions

Ability to design scalable and efficient serverless workflows for data ingestion, processing, and transformation

Knowledge of event-driven architectures and experience implementing automated triggers and workflows

Desired Skills and Competencies:

Data Visualization and Analytics

Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) for developing reports and dashboards

Familiarity with machine learning and data science concepts to support advanced analytics

Compliance and Governance:

Understanding of data governance frameworks, security best practices, and compliance standards (e.g., GLBA, FINRA, SEC Regulations, FFIEC)

Experience with data security, encryption, and identity/access management

Industry Experience:

Background in government or federal IT projects is a plus, with knowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory standards

Other Key Skills:

Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail.

Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional and distributed teams.

Working Environment & Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.

The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
