An ecological consulting firm serving clients across California is seeking a skilled Senior Ecologist to function as a mid to senior-level project manager. This role requires expertise in California's vegetation and wetland resources, with a focus on vegetation assessments, regulated aquatic resources, state and federal environmental permitting, CEQA-related impact analyses, and construction monitoring. The Senior Ecologist will be based out of the San Jose office, though projects may be located throughout California. Preferred Academic Credentials and Professional Training: Master's degree or higher in botany, ecology, or a related field Wetland Delineation Course leading to certification Arborist certification (highly desirable) Essential Skills and Experience: Delineation of jurisdictional waters of the state (e.g., waters subject to tidal flow, natural drainage features and their tributaries, natural lakes and impoundments, wetlands) Conducting floristic surveys and characterizing vegetation alliances, as well as locating special status plant species Preparing state and federal permit applications for projects affecting jurisdictional waters and sensitive botanical resources Developing mitigation plans for impacts to jurisdictional waters, ensuring they meet approval from state and federal resource agencies Preparation of CEQA documentation Responsibilities: Delineating jurisdictional waters in accordance with state and federal guidelines Conducting floristic surveys and vegetation assessments Preparing and submitting permit applications to relevant state and federal agencies Writing technical reports that meet CEQA and state/federal agency requirements Cultivating and maintaining client relationships, generating new work opportunities, and preparing proposals for upcoming projects Overseeing project execution, ensuring timely completion and adherence to established standards of care Compensation: The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 - $115,000.
