Director of Alumni Relations for the School of Medicine Office of Advancement Location: New Orleans, LA Summary: The Director of Alumni Relations for the School of Medicine is a professional position which works with the school’s Dean and the Vice President for Advancement, Campaigns and Administration to implement a strategic and comprehensive alumni relations program aligned with the school’s strategic plan. This position develops strategies to identify, involve and engage medical school alumni, students, residents, parents, and donors. The Director designs and coordinates school of medicine programs and events, including organizing reunion class parties for each class, recruiting volunteers, and working with School of Medicine annual and major giving teams to raise gifts by reunion classes. The position staffs the Tulane Medical School Alumni Association (TMAA) Board of Directors and manages the collection and expenditure of annual alumni association dues. Responsibilities: Build strong internal relationships with colleagues in Advancement, Alumni Relations, and with students, faculty, and staff throughout the school. Gather extensive knowledge about the school and stay current on industry best practices in alumni engagement. Strengthen and encourage sustainable, lifelong relationships between the medical school and its constituents. Collaborate with frontline officers to excel in philanthropy in conjunction with alumni relations activities. Qualify, cultivate, and steward a customized portfolio of alumni to help develop the philanthropic pipeline for annual and major gifts. Discuss philanthropy and solicit new or increased annual fund gifts from those in their portfolio as appropriate. Supervise two positions. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to interact professionally, courteously, and effectively with individuals of diverse groups at all levels. Demonstrated experience with soliciting and marketing funding and sponsorship opportunities. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Access for Windows; excellent computer skills. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks, prioritize projects, and make decisions with minimum supervision. Ability to travel, and to work events on evenings and weekends. Required Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years’ experience as an alumni relations professional. Transferable experience includes external affairs, admissions, public relations, marketing, or related field may be considered. OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years’ directly related experience. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in fundraising, large event planning, and board management. Familiarity with academic medical school setting. Graduate Degree. Compensation Information: This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 27.
