Position Details Position Information Position Title Electrician Location Appleton Department Facility Services Office Position Type Staff Position Description & Qualifications Reports to: Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations Department: Facility Services Location: Facility and Campus Services Office, Water Street, Appleton Position Summary : The Electrician works independently and with other trades personnel to complete work orders related to electrical equipment; plans and performs preventive maintenance; programs controls; repairs motors, circuits, fixtures, etc. and works with LU staff overseeing outside contractors. Position Competencies and Accountabilities: 1. Install motors, controls, conduit, wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, light fixtures, electrical appliances, etc. Prepare plan and schedule of each installation. Determine equipment required to satisfy all regulatory codes. Run conduit, pull wiring, and make connections. 2. Plan and perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, circuits, etc. Test emergency generators. Test fire alarms and sprinkler systems across all areas of campus and troubleshoot. Perform routine maintenance of motors. Repair and troubleshoot elevators and ID card access. 3. Repair and troubleshoot electrical equipment, circuits, etc. Analyze problem and conduct tests. Clean, repair, and/or replace parts; make decisions regarding replacement or repair. Program controls on lighting, drives, and electrical systems. 4. Order parts and equipment required to complete work orders; and perform physical inventory of supplies and parts. 5. Assist in other maintenance work on an assignment basis, including timely completion and tracking of assigned work orders. 6. Supervise student workers assisting in electrical work. 7. Oversee work being done by outside contractors. 8. Operate all equipment in a safe manner following equipment manual instructions/directions. Equipment must be maintained and kept clean; report needed repairs to equipment promptly. 10. Provide high level of customer service by responding promptly to all customer requests and or complaints and communicate them to supervisor in a timely manner. 11. Other duties as assigned. Working Relationships: The electrician works collaboratively with all members of the Campus and Facility Services staff and occupants of the various university buildings where work is performed. The incumbent must be able to provide excellent customer service to all members of the campus community, to respond to and work with students, faculty, and staff in a professional and courteous manner, and to work independently and with team members. Efficient and effective communication with supervisor, other tradesmen and customers; ability to read and follow oral or written instructions. 2. Excellent customer services skills. 3. Self-starter who can complete assigned projects without supervision. 4. Ability to meet requirements for driving Lawrence vehicles. 5. Ability to climb and work on a ladder and a lift; and ability to lift 50 pounds. 6. Excellent work attendance. 7. Ability to operate powered hand tools; and maintain and repair gas and diesel generators. 8. Flexibility and availability to work occasional after hours, weekend, on-call, and call-in duties. Education and Work Experience High school or GED required - including general math and basic computer skills including e-mail and online work orders or instructions. 10 years of work experience as an electrician. State Journeyman Electrician Certification at a minimum.
