Location: Warehouse Operations & Mainten Department: Sheet Metal & Roofing Area:North Contract Months:12 Hourly Rate: $$17.65 JOB SUMMARY Plans, lays-out, fabricates, assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment and products, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining and layout techniques, using hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling and installing sheet metal products. Uses sheet metal tools and equipment proficiently and safely. Performs accurate cutting, forming and welding. Lays-out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material, using scribers, dividers, squares and rulers, applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product or parts using templates. Sets-up and operates fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls and routers, to cut, bend, block and form or straighten materials. Fabricates electrical panels, doors and brackets. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED Performs other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION Vocational / Technical / Business School WORK EXPERIENCE 3 to 5 years SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Diploma and/or certificate from a Sheetmetal trade school Hand tools (e.g., aviation shears, hammer, square); Power tools (e.g., hydraulic shear, drill press, roll former, bending brake, punch press); Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, forklift) General knowledge of sheet metal layout, fabrication and installation LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision. BUDGET AUTHORITY No budget development activity is required. PROBLEM SOLVING Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services. IMPACT OF DECISIONS Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.
