Posting Details Position Information Position Title Electrician Job Description Under the direction of the Director of the Physical Plant or assigned supervisor, the Electrician performs a variety of maintenance duties and repairs to assure all university mechanical systems remain in good physical condition. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform skilled work in installing, repairing, and maintaining low and high-voltage electrical systems. Perform preventative maintenance procedures for mechanical systems. Perform various electrical repairs, installation of electrical devices and equipment, motor control wiring, and troubleshooting. Read and perform work from job orders. Accurately read blueprints, specifications, drawings, etc. Utilize equipment to locate underground utilities. Maintain inventory and initiate requests for trade-specific parts and supplies as the supervisor approves. Install conduit, low voltage communication cable, and high voltage cabling. Assists with installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC and boiler equipment Locates underground utilities, installs conduit and low-voltage communication cabling. Utilize good planning and organizational skills. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have a working knowledge of local, state, and federal NEC codes. Knowledge of single and three-phase electrical systems. Knowledge of general mechanical procedures. Ability to read blueprints and electrical diagrams. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and boom or scissor lifts Must be familiar with various electrical repairs, installation of electrical devices and equipment, motor control wiring, and troubleshooting. Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail. Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to give and receive verbal instructions. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have a working knowledge of local and NEC codes. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED (1) year post-secondary technical training or 5 years documented commercial electrical experience working with single and three phase electrical systems. Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Journeyman Electrical license Commercial Driver's License Physical Demands Must be able to work in extremely cold and hot conditions both indoors and outside. May be exposed to the intense noise of equipment, machinery, and tools. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, extreme temperatures, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and working at height. Position requires heavy physical activity and the ability to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and reach. Required to use close vision and be able to focus. Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, bend at the knee and waist, and walk. Must have repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements to type and work on the computer. Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computers, telephones, and related office equipment. Regular attendance is a necessary function. FLSA Non-Exempt Additional Demands Occasional weekend and after-hours work will be required.
