Salary : $39,873.60 Annually Location : Macon, GA Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 202400067 Department: Facilities Management/Administration Opening Date: 07/31/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Summary An Electrician I/II is responsible for performing both rough and finished electrical work for Macon-Bibb County. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Electrician I: Performs and or assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical service and equipment for Macon-Bibb County facilities and properties. Performs and or assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining street lighting, interstate lighting, and park lighting owned by Macon-Bibb County. Performs and or assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical and electronic control systems for Macon-Bibb County facilities and properties. Determines proper types of wiring to be used; measuring, cutting, and terminating wires. Responds to accident scenes involving Macon-Bibb County owned street and interstate lighting to de-energize any live conductors and clean up lighting debris. Ensures the proper operation and use of vehicles, equipment, and tools available to the Facilities Management Dept. Will be required to participate in the on-call duty rotation. Will be required to perform and or assist with other duties as assigned. Electrician II: Performs and or assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical service and equipment for Macon-Bibb County facilities and properties. Performs and or assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining street lighting, interstate lighting, and park lighting owned by Macon-Bibb County. Performs and or assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical and electronic control systems for Macon-Bibb County facilities and properties. Determines proper types of wiring to be used; measuring, cutting, and terminating wires. Responds to accident scenes involving Macon-Bibb County owned street and interstate lighting to de-energize any live conductors and clean up lighting debris. Education, Training and Experience An Electrician I should possess, at a minimum, a high school degree or GED, supplemented by the completion of a standard electrical training course and two (2) to three (3) years of experience in the electrical field, or any equivalent combination of education and field experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. An Electrician II should possess, at a minimum, a high school degree or GED, supplemented by the completion of a standard electrical training course and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the electrical field, or any equivalent combination of education and field experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Low voltage wiring and fire alarm systems experience is a plus. Necessary Special Requirements: Possess a Commercial Driver's License, Class B with no air brake restrictions, or the ability to obtain this license by the end of the six (6) month probationary period. Must be available for 24-hour emergency call response as needed. Must be comfortable and able to work at heights, ladders, lift equipment, and bucket trucks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities An Electrician I & II must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts. Knowledge of basic electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles as applied to electrical systems. Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, equipment, and practices in the electrical trade. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Basic working knowledge of personal computers. The ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings. The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. The ability to apply training and prior experience to electrical systems maintenance. The ability to analyze, isolate, and correct problems in electrical systems. Apply skill in the care and use of vehicles, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade. The ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public.
