We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Accountant to perform a combination of cost accounting tasks on production contracts and provide general accounting support at month-end closings. The ideal candidate will analyze material, labor, and overhead cost variances, provide oversight, analysis, and reporting of company inventory, and manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end cost accounting close requirements to meet corporate deadlines.
Responsibilities
Perform a combination of cost accounting tasks on production contracts and provide general accounting support at month-end closings.
Analyze material, labor, and overhead cost variances.
Provide oversight, analysis, and reporting of company inventory.
Prepare monthly journal entries, analyze invoicing, reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, assign account coding, and approve expenditures.
Create and update new standard costs as requested.
Assist with the annual standard cost roll for various business groups.
Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end cost accounting close requirements to meet corporate deadlines.
Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries as part of the month-end close process.
Prepare cost accounting reports to monitor manufacturing expenses and inventory trends.
Review and explain month-end manufacturing variances between actual and standard costs.
Monitor and observe cycle counts, perform monthly account reconciliations, and input data into the corporate central database.
Manage the monthly scrap process.
Essential Skills
Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with ERP systems.
Detail-oriented.
Ability to work with diverse teams with multiple priorities.
Experience with complex software systems.
Strong problem-solving ability and experience identifying root causes.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Professional certification preferred.
Work Environment
The position requires working on-site 3-4 days a week and reporting to the interim Finance Director.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00
