GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The Recruiter/Scholarship Specialist is essential to supporting student enrollment and recruitment at Hinds Community College. This role combines recruiting responsibilities with scholarship management, working with prospective students to promote the college's offerings and helping them secure scholarship funding. The Recruiter/Scholarship Specialist plays a vital role in the comprehensive Enrollment Center, facilitating student access to financial resources through scholarships. This position is responsible for administering and managing Foundation Scholarships and non-performance-based Institutional scholarships. The individual will also be responsible for coverage of a high school territory to develop and maintain relationships with schools, businesses, and community partners, coordinate scholarship processes, and support the strategic enrollment and retention goals of the college.

The Recruiter/Scholarship Specialist must have public speaking experience and have the ability to create media presentations and deliver dynamic and engaging presentations to captive audiences. The individual must have advanced computer skills and have the ability to learn quickly. Using technology and analyzing student data is expected on a daily basis in a variety of platforms, including but not limited to Workday, Colleague, My.Hinds, SoftDocs, Sharepoint, and all Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Office 365 Forms, Excel, and PowerPoint. The Recruiter/Scholarship Specialist must deliver outstanding and unwavering customer service to prospective students and all internal and external constituents. The Recruiter/Scholarship Specialist must travel within Hinds, Rankin, Warren, Claiborne, and Copiah counties to recruit at events that may take place during traditional work hours, as well as evening and weekend hours.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Two or more years in higher education or student services is preferred.
  • Two or more years of sales experience preferred, with a focus on using data to track outcomes and measure effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following.

  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  • Represent Hinds Community College at all times in such a manner that the College's reputation is promoted and maintained at the highest level of professionalism and positivity.
  • Manage the student awards process of all Foundation Scholarships in collaboration with the Office of Advancement, as well as manage select Institutional Scholarships including the ACT Scholarship, Valedictorian & Salutatorian Scholarship, Scout Scholarships, High School Equivalency Diploma Scholarships, Career/Technical Competition Winner Scholarship, and Rankin Literary Festival Scholarship.
  • Assist in developing, evaluating, and enforcing scholarship policies and procedures.
  • Promote scholarship opportunities to prospective and current students to attract qualified candidates and increase the applicant pool.
  • Assist students with scholarship applications and requirements to ensure competition of requirements by deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation to assist with the student to donor matching.
  • Manage the application review and selection process for scholarship awards.
  • Assist and ensure scholarship applicants have met institutional admission and residency requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining the functionality of the college's scholarship portal, Scholarship Universe, by assisting with scholarship application configuration, matching criteria, mass-renewal configuration, and Workday to Scholarship Universe integrations.
  • Manage communications to scholarship awardees including award letters, acceptance forms, thank you letter instructions, scholarship reception invitations, notice of requirements, low credit hour warnings, forfeits, appeal procedures, and more.
  • Communicate awards and renewals to the Financial Services team to ensure prompt packaging before payment deadlines.
  • Regularly check credit hour load throughout the semester, especially after the Add/Drop and No-Show windows for all expanded terms to ensure full-time enrollment to ensure full-time enrollment.
  • Monitor students' academic progress to ensure continued eligibility.
  • Communicate scholarship forfeiture and proper appeal procedures.
  • Lead a scholarship appeals committee to review appeals and make decisions on scholarship reinstatement.
  • Maintain regular communication will awardees throughout the academic year to foster a connection to the college and student retention and success.
  • Assist the Foundation in annual scholarship receptions, as needed, and ensure student participation.
  • Work with the Enrollment Center teams to ensure a systematic and comprehensive enrollment strategy.
  • Maintain knowledge of nursing and allied health programs at Hinds, as well as career trends in our community within the healthcare field, in order to educate prospective students on college and career options.
  • Forge alliances with local businesses and workforce partners to establish recruitment pipelines for adult learners, enhancing enrollment opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with educational and legislative stakeholders, including high school counselors and career coaches to drive traditional and nontraditional student recruitment initiatives effectively.
  • Make visits to local high schools, attend college fairs, career fairs, trade fairs, job fairs, community events, and any other events conducive for recruiting prospective students.
  • Create and deliver College media presentations that may be provided virtually or face-to-face to both individuals and large audiences.
  • Use Navigator (Workday) on a daily basis to monitor, track, and contact prospective students. And follow-up with prospective students by phone, text, and email.
  • Provide the Recruiting Coordinator with annual recruiting goals, objectives, and recruiting analysis and reports, as needed.
  • Monitor and report recruiting progress in alignment with the goals of the strategic enrollment plan.
  • Work in the Enrollment Center to provide holistic enrollment services to students and provide outstanding and unwavering customer service at all times.
  • Recruit prospective students for all credit-bearing classes, both academic and career/technical programs.
  • Build relationships with faculty and staff in appropriate departments to collaborate and successfully meet the needs of prospective students.
  • Assist the Recruiting Events Coordinator with organizing, planning, and working at all on-campus recruiting events.
  • Interact with the Hinds Connection members to build positive relationships and coordinate their participation in recruiting events.
  • Serve all six locations of Hinds Community College by recruiting for each location and physically train in certain areas.
  • Serve on the District Scholarship Committee, as needed, and assist in reviewing and selecting scholarship recipients.
  • Assist with Institutional Advancement events, as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Mississippi Community College system.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and adequate transportation.
  • Normal work hours are 8:00 to 4:30, Monday-Thursday and until 11:30 on Fridays; with extended office hours until 6:00 during designated peak registration times. Work on a rotational schedule to cover extended hours. Many on- and off-campus recruiting events occur in the evenings and weekends. These events are considered part of the job and part of the workday and are required to be covered.
