Job Type Full-time, Part-timeDescriptionSalud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County. We began in Watsonville 1978 as a storefront "free clinic," and with the ever growing need for health services, in 1992 became a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites and over 400 employees and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.We are seeking a Psychiatrist to provide outpatient psychiatric care to patients established with Salud. The Psychiatrist will be responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of various emotional disturbances affecting individuals, groups, and families. The Psychiatrist also provides consultations with members of the multidisciplinary team and completes detailed documentation of therapeutic plans in patient charts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Provide urgent psychiatric evaluations, initial evaluations and deliver ongoing psychiatric services for patients as appropriate to each patient. This includes comprehensive history, current medications, allergies, pertinent medical and psychiatric history, psychosocial and developmental history and an appropriate mental status examinationFormulate a diagnostic assessment, treatment plan, disposition, and follow up care. This includes: rendering diagnosis, ordering and interpreting diagnostic test(s) as appropriate, recommending therapeutic treatment modalities (including medications), providing appropriate patient instruction and/or referrals, monitoring symptoms, progress of treatment and treatment response as appropriate.Collaborate with medical providers, therapists, non-medical case managers, and other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress within Salud's integrated behavioral health model of careProvide medication management by monitoring medication efficacy, side effects, and interactions with other medications, and make adjustments as necessary.Support crisis intervention during episodes of severe emotional distress, suicidal ideation, or acute psychosis.Maintain detailed documentation of treatment goals and plans within each patient's electronic medical recordConsult with Salud's behavioral health team and medical providers regarding patient careProvide staff trainings as it relates to psychiatric medications, differential diagnosis, and addiction medicationKeep up-to-date with professional job knowledge by reading publications, attending educational conferences, and maintaining professional networks.Participate in quality improvement initiativesKnowledge of:Evidence-based treatments (e.g. motivational interviewing, harm reduction, contingency management, cognitive behavior therapy, stage of change model, addiction medication, interventions, etc.) Human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.Principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental dysfunctionsVarious medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, sedatives, anxiolytics, hypnotics, mood stabilizers, and stimulants Ability to:Treat a patient using psychotherapeutic methods and medication, monitoring the effects of any medication and adjusting treatment where necessary.Communicate and work effectively with diverse populations including underserved and uninsured patientsMaintain a proactive approach with a strong work ethic and desire to participate in a collaborative environment.Document efficiently in an electronic health recordFollow ethical and legal policies, procedures and standards.Work on site at least part-time (hybrid schedule)Attend mandatory meetingsTravel to various sites and locations. RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:Must hold an active, valid and unrestricted license from the California Medical Board to practice as a psychiatrist in the state of California, with no pending or previous disciplinary action from any state licensing entity. Must hold Board Certification in Psychiatry or be Board Eligible in Psychiatry; able to work in a FQHC. Maintain an active and current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificationPossession of a valid CA Driver's license and insurance. Current CPR CertificationPreferred qualifications:Four years of experience in clinic based or community health center environment preferredBilingual/bicultural in SpanishBasic knowledge of local, state and federal regulations relating to care of patients in a clinic setting; and prior experience with county, state and federal programs such as CHDP, MediCal, Drug Medi-Cal is preferred.Physical Demands:Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving, and/or lifting up to 25 pounds.Salary & Benefits:Salary: $308,944.06 - $341,120.00/ yr Benefits: available to all regular Salud employees working 24+ hours per week.
