As a Material Handler/Forklift Operator, you will get to collaborate with members throughout the organization, including Coatings leaders, technicians and machine operators to ensure the correct movement of product in and out of the department, appropriate storage of in-process product, and ensure machine operators have necessary parts and supplies.

What you will get to do:

  • Move material within the department and around the plant using a written schedule, supervisor's request, and knowledge you'll gain in plant operations.
  • Complete and verify movement tags and daily production cards. Ensure counts are accurate.
  • Work closely with the department Inventory Control Specialist.
  • Operate forklift trucks, elevator and hand lifts to move a wide variety of supplies and products while following all safety protocols.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Includes recharging forklifts and other related duties.
  • Receive and ship department materials.
  • Play a key role in minimizing downtime on the production lines. Assist group leaders in any setup as requested.
  • Load/Unload materials on or off the machines as requested.
  • Participate in 5S activities ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
  • Work with other departments to ensure proper material flow.
  • Follow all safety rules at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 6 months experience with scan guns and bar codes
  • Minimum 6 months forklift driving experience
  • The ability to read, write, and understand English at a 6th grade level
  • Comfortable moving pallets weighing up to 3,000 pounds
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and the ability to use a calculator
  • Strong detail orientation and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of all fixtures and uses
  • Able to operate material handling equipment, including a forklift
  • Ability to meet Northland's licensing requirements to operate a forklift
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willing to work overtime periodically
  • Must be able to consistently maintain a reliable record of attendance and punctuality
  • Experience with Epicor preferred
